Hey Andrew,

Welcome to the site. As you probably read in other introduction posts, there is a lot of years worth of information to go through. Check into it if you have a question, search the internet, and then come back to us.

Congratulations on getting your Option 40. For some that is one of the hardest points and they never get by it. You don't have a lot of time. What are you doing to prepare yourself? Self administer an APFT and report your scores back here to establish a baseline.

What have you been doing since you got out of high school? Why did you decide to join now?

Andrew, please update your signature block according to our standards next time you are here.

PT scores are a really good start. Especially if you've never done something like it before. As you read around for training programs and look for something to follow make sure you research things on recovery too. If you're not accustomed to working out and running/rucking all week don't lean into too hard and make sure your body can recover.

Teaching yourself stuff takes a lot of discipline. It's good that you've put yourself through it. Unfortunate that stuff didn't pan out like you wanted but continuing to press on and setting new goals is a solid plan for progression. Joining the military, even if only for a few years, is a great way to get out and see different parts of the country and meet a lot of interesting people as you have probably assumed.

What are your goals in the military besides becoming a Ranger?

Aside from becoming a Ranger, I don't really have many/any other goals. Just to learn as much as I can in the ~4 years I'm in, and volunteer (in the schools/training sense) for as much as I can.
It's a good plan to start with. Keep in mind people compare being in the military, especially a place like Ranger Regiment, with being on a train... Once you are on it and it's moving fast... it's not a great time to make plans and no one is going to help you get off unless they throw you off themselves.

You already have your short term goal. That is get in and serve in Regiment. What about 5 years from now, or 10 from now? I have trouble making goals further than 5 years out but it's good to try. Nothing wrong with changing goals as life changes. Something to consider is all.
