Introduction - Dylan
Hi, my name is Dylan. I am 27 years old, have a high school education level, and work as an Over the Road truck driver.
I enlisted in the United States Army earlier this month. I have a 68W Contract with an Option 40. I ship out for Basic Training on August 6th 2019. I am looking forward to being a member of this site and learning a lot more about the Rangers.
In addition, I have recently purchased the 68W Advanced Field Craft Combat Medic Skills textbook and began studying. I am also enrolled in an online course this semester: Human Anatomy and Physiology at Colombia State Community College. I am actively preparing and readying myself as the best Future Soldier I can be.
Thank you.

Re: Introduction - Dylan
Ranger CharlieRanger1FFV, Ranger Lunch, Ranger Disinfertention,
Thank you for the welcome.
Ranger Disinfertention,
Is my signature line correct?
I decided to join the military at this point in my life because of a conscious awakening. The desire to serve had grown and kept resurfacing through various stages of my adult life. This past year in particular, I realized that if I neglected my duty, I would forever regret it.
I picked 68W for various reasons. The primary being, in Vietnam in 1969, my late father received a gunshot wound to his right leg while serving in the United States Army. He told me the story of the people who saved his life when I was a child, and I realized I would not exist if not for them. Upon reflecting upon his legacy, and my continuing desire to serve, I decided to enlist as a Combat Medic Specialist.
It is my goal to become the most technically advanced conventional medic ever produced by the United States Army; an expert in emergency medical care, force health protection, limited primary care, evacuation, and warrior skills. I plan to utilize all of the benefits the military has to offer to maximize my potential. I plan to invest heavily into the TSP, utilize Tuition Assistance and further my education as accessible, and upon completion of my contract I plan to utilize the GI Bill to obtain a bachelor's degree in Biological and Biomedical Sciences.
I am currently 5'11 and 160 lbs. My fitness level is average by civilian standards, subpar as far as military standards, and unacceptable as far as Ranger standards. I will be conducting an APFT by the end of the week and will post my results. I will continue to conduct this test and post my results on a biweekly basis until my ship date.
In the meantime I will continue to familiarize myself with this forum and its procedures. I look forward to documenting my Delayed Entry Program experience for others in the future to learn from and follow.
Thank you,
Dylan

Ranger Centermass and Mootaz23,
Thank you for the welcome.
Today I conducted my first APFT test. Please note this test was self administered. The results are as follows:
Pushups (in 2 minutes): 22 repitions
Score: 42
Situps (in 2 minutes): 45 repititions
Score: 60
2 Mile Run: 15 minutes 54 seconds
Score: 72
Final Score: 174 Failed
I welcome all criticism and perhaps a small amount of encouragement. I intend to score a 300 on the APFT before my ship date of 20190806. My next APFT will be conducted within two weeks, on or before 20190224.

Re: Introduction - Dylan
Well, you have plenty of time to get better. You have about 6 months it looks like.
There is a lot of PT advice on here, take the time to read it, make a plan and get at it. Also, don't forget that form (especially on push ups) is just as important at this point. Doing 50 correct is better than 80 half-assed.
Good luck.

Thanks Ranger IntelToad.
Time is on my side and I plan to use it efficiently. I am definitely going to focus on form to begin with. I know that pushups and situps done incorrectly with poor form do not get counted on APFT.
I have received some great advice on the Discord channel and have also received a few work out plans. I appreciate all of the help. I am also going to use the search feature on this forum to dig deeper into some PT threads.
Thank you.

Re: Introduction - Dylan
All about motivation and a little belief that you belong. Belief in that you belong wins you over all else and is sometimes all anyone wants... Well said, Mootaz.

Ranger Disinfertention and Mootaz23,
Thanks for the encouragement. I am doing my best to stay motivated. I will not give up. I have a small amount of belief that I belong now, and I hope that belief continues to grow near towards my ship date, and into my US Army career.
Thank you,
Dylan

You already do belong. You have the key. You are finding the tools. Being a 68W in Regiment is yours. Now you just have to walk the line. I'll bet you will hear it in basic, toe the line. That's not the only right answer in your career, but for now it works. All you need to do now is what everyone asks you to. Haha. Super simple... You have the contract. It is yours. Do it.
I messaged you on discord, hit me up!

Ranger Disinfertention,
Thank you for the message. I was apprehensive to claim a sense of belonging without making it through selection first. I now understand that a sense of belonging is integral to this process.
I will continue to put in the work and I will tow the line. I will do my job, and I will make it to Regiment as a 68W.
Thank you.
