Introduction- Nathan

Post by Nsmith1776 »

Good evening Rangers and other members of this forum. My name is Nathan, I am currently a junior in high school. Near the end of this month I'll be turning 17 and will begin the enlistment process. I want to sign an 11x option 40 contract. I currently go to the gym before school early in the mornings. After school I work at an automotive repair shop. I am looking forward to using the wealth of information on this site to aid me in accomplishing my goals.

Ranger Lunch, thanks for your reply. I knew from an early age that I wanted to serve my country. My best friend’s father, a member of the 160th SOAR, would tell us stories of the SOF groups he worked with, and decided that’s where I wanted to be. I also want to be the best possible person I can be, the skills and lessons I will take away from the hardships and suffering will better me as a person. More of a generic reason, but still holds true, is I want to carry on the legacy of those before me, who possessed the title Army Ranger.

Ranger Lunch, I will have enough time to properly complete one on Sunday. I will post my scores when complete.

Nathan, welcome to ArmyRanger.com.

Sunday has come and gone... Were you able to execute an APFT?

It is good you have found the site. There is decades of information on these boards for you to access. Please use the search feature here and elsewhere on the internet to ask informed questions and try to avoid ones that have been answered previously.

Do you play any sports? If you plan to talk to a recruiter right at 17, are you trying to graduate early or do you plan to do your full senior year?

Ranger Disinfertention thanks for your reply. I run cross country and played baseball up until last year due to work. I plan on finishing my senior year. I have completed an APFT my scores are:
Pushups- 58 in 2 minutes
Sit-ups- 73 in 2 minutes
2 mile run- 15:29 (307 Feet elevation gain).
Sunday I also attempted a 5 mile run I completed it in 48:57 (686 Feet elevation gain.) Obviously I need to improve these scores significantly. I’m taking the online ASVAB at the end of this month. I scored a 84 AFQT on the practice ASVAB. My goal is by the beginning of my senior year (August 2019) to well exceed these scores.

Ranger Lunch, I definitely need to improve my PT scores. As I continue to progress I will post results when significant progress has been reached.

Nathan, are you able to execute chin-ups yet? If you are unable, what is your plan to improve those?

Ranger disinfertention, as of now I am only able to complete 16 chin ups. To improve them I will do some each night along with pushups to improve.
