Great update Patrick. I vividly remember my first time walking out to a C-130 for my first jump. Not an experience you will ever forget.

If you end up going home you will really need to stay focused. The best part about waiting in Pre-RASP for 2-6 weeks is the fact you focus on being ready for the course. I do not know if it is an option but if it makes sense I would see if you could move to Pre-RASP instead of going home (Probably would have to ask your chain of command). Do what works for you though.

Patrick, how are you doing in Airborne? You should be into Jump Week by now. Never, never quit!

Ranger Jim,

Airborne went very well and was fortunate to be part of a fun stick with good guys to my left and right. Did my first jump last Monday, two on Tuesday, and finished off Wednesday with the combat and night jumps.
Regarding that C-130, we squeezed in there like sardines, it was hot, the plane was rickety like no other, and with that look on all our faces as we awaited, I will most certainly remember that first jump. After that it was a breeze with jumps out of the C-17 the rest of the way. The night jump though was really something else...nearly 0% illumination and almost pitch black. Jumped out, had twisted lines, had a guy land on my parachute, but all in all braced myself and landed safely and softly.
Overall Jump Week went well and without any major mishaps for my class. Graduated last Friday and am incredibly proud to be a part of the Airborne!

By now Patrick, you should be airborne qualified. Please tell us how jump week went. How challenging do you see RASP?

Without a doubt I am sure RASP will be one of the most enduring encounters to date for me. Knowing myself there are no other options but to get through it-that is my mentality-no matter what. God could make me sick, or he could have me break a bone, but there is no other option in my mind but to get through it unless the Almighty, or the Army decides otherwise. 'Til then I am preparing physically, reading the Phase 1 study guide, and reading through Sua Sponte again to be prepped as much as possible.

Bjj113 - Please go post an introduction in the correct forum. We have no idea who you are or why you think you can talk to one of our Soldiers this way.

Rangers,

Alas I do not return with something you want to hear and have no good news to share, but I withdrew from the program. There is nothing really to say-it's just not for me. I learned a whole lot, about the lifestyle, your world, what is expected, and realized I can't honestly say I would live up to the lifestyle all day everyday; I am not cut out for it. I hate to disappoint, but will strive to be better where I am better suited in the RA. Thank you nonetheless for the guidance and experience shared upon on this board.

Patrick, yes I am disappointed. But I appreciate you having the intestinal fortitude to come on and explain yourself, rather than just disappear from the site.
