INTRODUCTION

Post by belman1 »

Greetings Army Rangers and Forum Members,

My name is Austin, I am highly motivated 17 year old and currently live in north Chicago. I am graduating this June and will also be turning 18. I am currently in Jrotc. I come from a long line of farmers, tradesmen, and military veterans. Since the age of 14 I've dream of becoming a Army Ranger. At the age of 15 I have made a commitment of making my dream come possible by exercising and dieting. As of right now I am following the Navy Seal buds ptg. I do NOT want to be a Seal but there training program is very simple, easy to follow, and progressive which I need.

I am very motivated and willing to do whatever it takes to join the brotherhood of the 75th Battalion. I've read damn near every artictle twice. I push my self everyday. I have a go getter midset, a killer midset. I have goals and dreams and if anyone gets in the way of me i will plow right through them. I dont give crap who they are. I strive to be the best of the best In every aspect in live. The Army Rangers are best of the best.

Roger, Ranger Jim. I have read Faqs and found it extremely useful. Thank you very much. I have taken the asvab and received a 59 last march. I qualify for all mos. I ask about retakes and a recuiter told me "if you score above a 50 you cant" so i havent. I'm considering either 11X, 12B, and 68W. I went in last September and 3 men tried talking me out of an option 40. I've worked to hard and long to be talked out of an option 40. Since then I have been trying to find a straight shooter recuiter who will give me what I want. So until then I am a sitting duck.

Austin,

First consider getting yourself a good ASVAB prep book that should help you to raise your scores and set yourself up for success. OK I get the 11x Opt 40 as that is what 90% that come here look for but I am intrigued as to why the 12B and have you researched how many there are in Regiment and why the 68W?

Rangers,
I enlisted last Thursday and have my package complete. I am going to meps tomorrow. I will be complete medical exam, security clearance interview and swearing in. So I was told by my recruiter that I will know Monday if I am eligible for an option 40. Then I will have to wait until there is a 11x or 35l opt 40 then go to meps again and sign my contract. Is this true? Am I being screwed around?

Ranger Grim666,
Please excuse me for my absence. I took the asvab last year in March and received a 59 with a gt score of 109. I have narrowed my decision down to 11x or 35l. I was thinking about 68w or 12b but did more research and knew neither were for me.

I was also told I wouldn't be able to ship out with a option 40 until Dec or Jan.

Thank you for your time Rangers.

Rangers,
I went to the recruiting office and they were not wanting to give me an option 40 because there's none in the database so they try to convince me to get a infantry contract without it and trying to convince me that I can get it in basic and I wasn't going for it. So my father and i left. They also forgot to tell us to bring social security card and ID. My dad already text them to see if I needed anything and they said nope he's good so they're really half-assed over there. Shortly after the recruiter called and said he doesn't want to work with my father and I and how I won't make it as a Airborne infantry or Ranger. I'm not quitting. If I have to wait for a few more months then I will so help me god. Never Quit!

Rangers,
I just found out from another recruiter out of state that I have a 59 on advance and a 104 gt score. My recruiter I was today knew all about it and forbidden me to let me know that I don't qualify as a Ranger. He also said I can retake the test 2 year on the first date I took it. Which is March 14 2015. So it looks like I'll have to wait until March 14 2017 to take take it so I can become a Ranger. It gives me more time to prepare even more. Never quit.

Was that the first time that you took the ASVAB?

Ranger Grim666,
Army: The Army will allow a retest only if the applicant's previous ASVAB test has expired, or the applicant failed to achieve an AFQT score high enough to qualify for enlistment, or when unusual circumstances occur, such as if an applicant, through no fault of his or her own, is unable to complete the test. For example, an applicant is called away from test because of an emergency. Army recruiters are not allowed to schedule a retest for the sole purpose of increasing scores in order to qualify for enlistment incentives, job qualifications, or other special enlistment programs.

Actually if I am correct and I believe I am you can take one it is either 90 or 180 days after your first attempt. After that it is a year. And generally the one you take in HS is not counted (at least what I have heard from some recruiters). You just need to get a practice book so your next chance you can smash it and find a real recruiter to work with.
