I just visited my daughter and her husband, stationed at Ft Carson, CO. My goal was to complete The Manitou INCLINE, just outside Colorado Springs. My wife and I walked about 4-5 miles 3 to 4 time a week, for a few months, mostly hills to try and prepare for this hike. It helped, but I'm not sure anything would prepare you for this. Holy cow, what a hike, but well worth it when you make it to the top. The picture is of me, my wife, my 2 daughters and my daughters husband standing at the top of The Incline. I don't know why the second picture keeps loading sideways, but if you click on it, it opens up right. This is a picture of the over 50 crowd at the top of The Incline. :) If you want a good workout and you enjoy pain, I recommend this hike. By the way, all of you who recommended I get a Camel Pack, I want to thank you. I now wonder how I made it all of those years in the Army without one.

Looks like you enjoyed yourself. You are right, a camelback is as great asset.

Re: The Manitou Incline
I kept thinking, if I can make it up the TVD carrying an M60 Machine Gun and fully loaded ruck then this ain't nothin. Of course that WAS over 30 years ago. Quite a few young studs and stud-etts passed me on the way up and I just kept thinking to myself, if those young punks can do it, so can I.ManchuV wrote:Congrats to you and HH6. Looking at the background, I can see that was not an easy hump.

Grumpy-old-fart spite can be a powerful motivator. I know it is for me.
