Introduction: Brian

Post by Bbent1997 »

Hello Rangers,

My name is Brian, I am 17 years old, about to graduate high school next month. I live in the Northern Ohio area and have been here since I was 4. Joining the 75th Regiment has been my dream since I was seven. I've always wanted to be the best and I believe that you, are the very best. I took the ASVAB in November and my percentile score was a 70 and my Army GT score was a 110. Tomorrow I officially complete the APFT, I'll post my officially results then. I did a self administered test last month and those results will be posted at the end of this message. I am 5'10 and weigh 155lbs. I already have secured an Option 40 11x, also I am a DEP and I ship in July. I have read many of the posts that are on this site and am going to be reading as many as I can before I ship. Any advice, thoughts and/or criticisms are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Welcome.

Your scores are ok and will improve as you work out....your run time sucks though. You need to concentrate on getting your run time down, you want it very close to 13:00. Don't worry, you have time and with hard work you'll be a PT stud.

Thank you Ranger Jim and Ranger Slowpoke.

I completed the PT test today, it was not the full APFT. I'll be starting a running program tomorrow. Should I maintain my current pushups and situps? Or should also aim to increase the reps on those as well? Again, thank you for the advice and the welcome.

Yes, keep up your other conditioning and add the running. One mile run times are meaningless, do two mile or five mile for times. From now you need to drive yourself in everything you do. it's hard work and it sucks....it's supposed to.

Welcome Brian, Congrats on securing an Opt 40 contract. You've got about 5 months to be in the best shape to can be in before shipping out. PT until you puke and then PT some more. Give everything you've got, every time you give and never, ever quit! RLTW

Hello Ranger Rangerjd,

Thank you for your advice. Do you have any advice on what type of PT I should focus on? Or should I work on everything equally?

Thank you all,
Brian

Check out the thread on Army physical fitness, there is some good information there. At this stage of the game with 5 months to prepare and looking at your PT scores, I would say work on all areas and try to get that run time down. Also make sure you're running more than just 2 miles. Start working on that 5 mile run time.

Your ambition is admirable and you are fortunate to have obtained an Option 40.

Do not waste it.

Read, read, read, all the threads you can see here, post little, and drive yourself physically like you never have before.

Try running and working out in adverse weather conditions to see how it feels, because you should be prepared to do it for real.

If you have the opportunity in your area, try a Tough Mudder event. There is remarkable similarity to what you will see in the future.

Hello Rangers,

I took another PT test, here are the results. This was a self administered test, I counted every rep, and I did them as fast as I could. I don't think I had proper form. I go to Future Soldier tomorrow. I'll request if he can give me a graded full APFT.
