Sad situation. But, the officer was doing what he felt he had to do. Thankfully the Veteran will be alright. Prayers to both of them.

As I have been told by every LEO I've ever known; in a stop stay in the vehicle both hands on the wheel, if at night turn on dome light. Their job telling good from bad is hard enough without complicating it with anything but the easiest situation possible.
