Rick - NG to 75th
Name: Rick
Unit: 1313th Eng Co 113th Eng Bn 81 TC IN NG
Age: 22
MOS: 91L (heavy equipment mechanic)
TIS: 4 years 1 month and 26 days
Deployments: 0
Location: Noblesville, Indiana
Rank: PFC
Its time. I will make this as short and sweet and possible. My goal has and will always be to become a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment. I enlisted in the Indiana National Guard Dec 7, 2009. At the time of enlistment i was NOT a US Citizen, let it be clear that i DID NOT join to become one either, I joined out of pure passion for this country and the need to become the best while serving the country that has given me a new life. After graduating basic training, in Fort Sill, and AIT in Fort Leonard Wood, I knew I wanted to go Active Duty, I knew I wanted to go Airborne and I knew I wanted to become an US Army Ranger. Although I know excuses get you nowhere I want to let you know about the following. I AM A FAT BODY and there is no excuse, but it is time to turn that around and not just pursue but achieve my dreams. I am engaged and I have the support system in place to make it happen. I am working in getting in shape and learning more and more about the Ranger way of life. I am set to deploy to Afghanistan withing the next 12 months. My ETS date is Dec 7 2015 and that's where my questions come in.
What is best? Wait until my ETS and then join as a 13F with Option 40?
Is it possible to instead of re-enlist just create a contract as a 13F with Option 40?
Is there anyone out there that would be willing to "mentor" me, help with PT, Ranger history, motivation, accountability etc.?
Any tips on helping my fiance through all this?
Thank you for reading this and any and all help is greatly appreciated, thank you all for your service.

Is there a reason you're a PFC after more than 4 years of service? Article 15'd or other disciplinary?
Option 40 is not an option for prior service. You'll have to take your chances and push hard for a slot in RASP while at your new MOS AIT. Not withstanding if you're an admitted fat body, and you can't turn that around to up your PT scores to at least a 280 or so your chances are slim. No pun intended.

People say option 40 is not an option for prior service but upon extensive research I found out that it is not an options if you have a break in service. Which I will not have. I have PT issues that I am working on. Not meaning to butt heads but I am not looking for negativity. I know I can do it that is not a question of is but of how. I would like support in the aspect of how to achieve my goal.cams wrote:Is there a reason you're a PFC after more than 4 years of service? Article 15'd or other disciplinary?

Unless it has changed recently Opt 40 is not an option for prior service, break, no break, NG or Reserves, and with the draw down I don't see why it would change now.NGto75thRanger wrote:People say option 40 is not an option for prior service but upon extensive research I found out that it is not an options if you have a break in service. I asked a simple question and you failed to answer me, so I'll rephrase my point. After 4 yrs in the NG, as a PFC, still by your own admission severely lacking in PT, it tells me that you have no drive, no determination and no self-discipline to thrive in even a part-time status, what makes you think you can survive the trail to a Ranger Batt?
Don't take this as butting heads as you put it, or negativity, I'm simply trying to determine what your malfunction has been for the last several years and why all of a sudden you think you deserve a shot at the title.

My apologies Cams, my malfunction has been battling with lack of support from family and friends and dealing with trying to achieve a college education, but my biggest set back has been dealing with severe depression due to the ending of a really bad relationship with my highschool sweetheart. Not trying to go into much detail because there is no need to continue to let the past continue to rule my future. The reason I have not been promoted to specialist is due t the issue with PT, something that is already changing. I am devoted to becoming a Ranger and serving in the 75th regiment. I have taken all the necessary steps to move forward with achieving my goal, I have started a diet after consultation with a dietician and I have stated a work out program with a personally trainer and I did also had a medical doctor that I contacted prior to starting the work out.
The reason why I will do WHATEVER it takes to achieve the title of airborne ranger is because I know for a fact that is what God has sent me here to do. I have found the strength, motivation and support necessary to achieve these goals through my fiancé and some NCOs in my unit. I have zero doubt in my ability to achieve these goals with the right preparation. I have begun training for pre mob and I will take my time over seas to also train to achieve my goals when I come back from deployment.
I came to this site because I would truly appreciate any guidance, advice or motivation from my heroes. I strive every day to be like the people in this community and I refuse to give up with achieving acceptance into this brother hood

Re: Rick - NG to 75th
At this time I believe it would be appropriate for you to invest some time reading what you have access to on this site. You have been going down hill from your first post. There are rules every where you go in life, this is no different, well actually it is....we enforce our rules and you have been stepping all over them.
Do not reply to my post! Start by reading the rules as well as reading all the introductions you have time for and you will begin to understand. Rangers by there very nature are not tolerant of fools or laziness and you have exhibited both. A truly dedicated individual would spend the necessary time to prepare for anything worth doing. If you want to be a Ranger no one here can make you into one. We can assist someone who has the desire, willingness and drive to succeed and never quit. Either your man enough or your not.

Re: Rick - NG to 75th
Point of parliamentary procedure, your worship...
First; You are considered prior service, no matter what you think. Active guard is prior service.
Second; being in the service as a PFC, you should know how the chain of command works. The same goes for here. Doubly so if you are lucky enough to make it through RASP.(and I DO mean "LUCKY") At this point for you, everyone on this site "out ranks" you, either currently, or by their last rank held. You need to act accordingly.
Third; because you work for the State rather than Uncle Sam, all you would have to do is submit a 4187 specifically requesting release to enlist in the Active Army.
Fourth; Having done what you are trying to do, the fat body thing won't do at all. Not one bit. Everyone will know you come from the Guard, so they won't set the expect much of you, but to pass RASP you should think no less than 280. If it takes you a year, so be it. PT should be your friend.
Fifth; Chances are, you will have to wait to re-enlist and change MOS's, then try and get RASP in AIT. Your chances of that are good because 13F is a low density MOS. (ie-they ALWAYS need them in Batt.) If that is the case, and you choose 13F, you will definitely need to be in shape. They carry the heaviest fucking rucks I have ever seen.
Sixth; 13F is a coooool fucking job in Battalion. You will do shit that guys in plain-vanilla units won't ever do.
I could go on, but there is a plethora of information here for the asking and I'm fairly certain that 99.3% of your questions have been answered ad-nauseum.
Happy Hunting!

Re: Rick - NG to 75th
Rick, a man has only one opportunity to make a favorable initial impression. So far you are not doing well. If you truly want to earn a place in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came to the right site. We at armyranger.com take a great deal of pride in the young men who pass through here on their life journey. We are not FaceBook, each and everyone with Ranger below his avatar is a validated and verified Ranger. Your PT scores are less than impressive, add pull-ups to your workouts (that is if you workout at all). Most of the questions you might have can be addressed by using the search feature, located on the top right of this page. Please read the FAQs, as well as select stickies and threads. At the same time answer Ranger Cams' question, why are you still a PFC. Never, never quit!

Re: Rick - NG to 75th
First off I want to apologize for not following the chain of command, and for not following the site rules. My apologies sir/ma'am/sargeant .
To answer the question. I was demoted for failure to meet the standard in my most recent APFT. No excuse.
Secondly, I came to this site at this moment because I have created a plan. Obviously my short term plan is to pass my pt test at my unit. For that I just gotta run more. My plan is the following
During the next 11 months train as hard as possible and learn as much as I can before deploying with my unit
During my stay in Afghanistan I will continue to push my self and get in better shape in order to improve my chances during AIT, RIP, RASP, Airborne and Ranger School.
Upon my return from Afgh which should be towards the later part of 2015 I would like to reclass into a 13F and be afforded the opportunity to give it my all in RASP.
Once again I apologize for not following the rules and misusing this resource.

Also to address the question of whether or not I work out.
I do, I do weight training 4 times a week and crossfit/swim 3 times a week.
