Java Warning

Post by Flesh Thorn »

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is advising people to temporarily disable the Java software on their computers to avoid potential hacking attacks.

The recommendation came in an advisory issued late Thursday, following up on concerns raised by computer security experts.

Experts believe hackers have found a flaw in Java's coding that creates an opening for criminal activity and other high-tech mischief.

I'm so behind the times I thought you were talking about coffee. Scared me for a minute.

I thought this was an anti-coffee post too.

I too thought this was a dire coffee warning, then realized it related to Java software.

Ok hopefully I do not come off as paranoid here but could turning off the java software in essence open up computer users to other security risks when they are browsing the world wide web,

hummmm web browsing and coffee are two addictions many of us partake in daily, just food for thought

Thanks, Jenny

If you disable Java, some web sites will not open and others will not work correctly.

Ranger Flesh Thorn,

Thanks for the reminder, I have ran into this issue with disabling java awhile back when I was under a tight deadline to get something completed, didn't help my stress level at the time  . Jenny

This might be a self fulfilling virus. Have enough folks shut down Java, and it will cripple their own computer's ability to function on the internet.

From a programming perspective, and application performance, both Java and Flash are complete pieces of dogshit. The problem is they both allow otherwise shitty programmers to produce less than mediocre content with relative ease. There are some exceptions to this, particularly with Java, but the vast majority of Java apps out there are resource eating shit biscuits. HTML5 is the wave of the future, and will pretty much eliminate the need to continue using these digital obamanations.
