College funding with option 40

Post by jcstamp »

Rangers and those in the United States Military, I would greatly appreciate your help and insight on this topic. Is it possible to get an opt 40 contract that allows you to attend college and enlist as a specialist? And is there any way to include military funding for my college education? Thanks in advance!

What are you asking? That you go to college and then join? If so the only thing I can think of is ROTC.

I'm sorry i was not clear. Yes that's what I was asking. I was wondering if there was any way short of ROTC...I apologize that I'm not very informed on the subject. Thank you Ranger Baseplate for responding.

You can enlist with your desired MOS and option 40, and earn the promotion to E3 while in the DEP, and then go to college online while you are active duty. Should you make it to the 75th, you will be promoted to E4 upon graduation of Ranger School or 2 years time in service, whichever comes sooner. The army will give you 4500 dollars a year in Tuition Assistance, as well as the full Post 9/11 GI Bill benefit after 3 years TIS. All of your military courses you attend count for college credit as well (I recieved 64 credits from my military courses attended). So, yes, you can an option 40, yes you can go to college, and yes the army will help pay for it.

Problem solved!

It worked for me. I have a BA from Methodist University, and an MA from Georgetown University and the Army (VA) paid my tuition,
