INTRODUCTION

Post by harley123 »

Rangers, good to be here, I'm currently an Infantry Officer and Platoon Leader in the 173rd Airborne. I had the pleasure to lead a fine group of Paratroopers through a 12 month deployment in OEF X and have recently been offered a RASP II date. I went through the "Infantry Officer Pipeline" at Benning in 2008/2009, including Ranger School from May-July 2009. While there, I had some incredibly professional Soldiers in my Squad, experts in everything from Level 1 tasks through the complex OPORD process. I was a young LT and became good friends with these squared-away PFC's from the Ranger Regiment. Working together, Ranger School was a breeze (that's a lie, but it was more manageable working a solidified team). We've kept in touch and they continually hassled me to join "their side of the Spec Op house". Having worked with these Rangers at school and supporting them in combat, it was a clear-cut choice to apply. Fortunately, the Regiment graciously accepted my packet and I'm 21 days of RASP away from starting this chapter.

My reasons for joining this forum are three-fold:
1) I hope to glean a further perspective of the NCOs and Soldiers I will shortly lead.
2) I wish to be further mentored through the "O-club", if someone would please share the process on how to do such.
3) I've read numerous posts from new LTs at IBOLC, or prior, and am more than willing to share my insights on the pipeline and being a combat Platoon Leader.

Again, good to be here!

Welcome Youngster. As you continue on your journey through the military and wherever you eventually proceed in life, notice the characteristics, attributes and behavior of those you most admire and apply them to your own style. Heed well the advice of seasoned veterans, especially the non-commissioned officers; however, in the final analyis, allow your decisions to be determined by your own moral compass and have faith in your own convictions. Always strive to become more than you are in memory of those who paved the way for you and to bolster the pride of your family that loves you dearly. Take good care of our national treasure, the troops under your charge, and be always deserving of their respect. Take pride in your accomplishments, for who will honor him who does not honor himself. Oh, yes, and have fun in your journey!

The way I became a Ranger and have earned the small amount of success I have had in life has been mostly due to one quality - determination. Lefty.

Rangers, thanks for the warm welcome, and Gary, all good words!

I hope to get more in depth with this resource shortly but appear to still be waiting my validation.

Any advice on where to go from here, any relevant posts or discussions that you specifically recommend?

Does the "O-Club" have a link?

I'll peruse until further notice!
