Reintroduction - Peter

Post by peterk »

Hello Rangers, military personnel, and other members,

It has been 4 years since I have been here last and would like to reintroduce myself.  Last time I was active in this forum, I was 21 years old and a junior in college.  I was struggling between the decision of joining the ROTC program or enlisting with an option 40.  Since then I have graduated college and decided to enter into seminary right after.  The past 3 years in seminary have been instrumental in shaping me to be a better man and I would not trade these past 3 years for anything.  With that said I am finishing my graduate studies and trying to discern what I am to do afterwards.

Currently I am a full student and a part time pastor at a small local church in Teaneck, NJ.  I love what I do but know that I am not to be a full time pastor in this time of my life.  With my future open, the one thing I have regretted if I can even say that, would be not having taken the leap to see if I have what it takes to work hard and be a Ranger, let alone serve the country.  I am a firm believer in service to God and country.  Hopefully I will be able to discern on the next move but I am glad to be back to these forums to read the stories and hard work many have put into optioning their dreams since my absence.

If not as a Ranger, the possibility of serving the country as a chaplain still remains.  Now I will get back to reading and learning quietly.  Thank you Rangers for such a great resource like this and of course for your hard work and service.

Peter K.

Have been and currently doing so Ranger al_2ndWolfhounds. I have contacted my old recruiter and have started to get the ball rolling. I will need to submit medical records to see if I even qualify because of an ACL reconstruction surgery from 4 years ago, but I am hoping that that does not end things. Thank you for your response.

Welcome back. There are a couple of active chaplains here, although both are "off to work" right now, but I'm sure you'll hear from them if they become aware of you.
Both serve units in USASOC but both first were enlisted line platoon Rangers. The Lord will provide where he guides, but otherwise, your best chance without such experience is to hope for an airborne unit of some sort.
If you're hoping for the 75th, then get into the best shape and graduate your chaplain & officer basic courses in the top percentile and do very well in your first assignments (not a big order, is it!). Officers in the 75th must successfully complete a tour in the corresponding position in the "big army" before they can apply to our regiment.
Welcome.

SITREP:

Since my reintroduction, I have had to go back to take the ASVAB because my old score was 3 years old.

AFQT: 91
GT: 127

Not much better than my previous scores, but I am glad to know that I have no gotten dumber in the last 4 years. I will post as things continue to come up. The recruiter will contact me with information regarding my knee surgery and criminal background check. Thank you Rangers.

Hello Rangers and fellow members of this board,

After two long days at MEPS I am glad to say that I have secured myself a 68W option 4 contract. I was very surprised at how everything came together with having a ACL reconstruction and getting straight 1's across my physical to convincing a doctor to perform an airborne physical when he was about to leave for the day. All in all it was amazing to see it come together so that I could get exactly what I wanted. One small step closer to where I want to be and now comes time for preparations. I would like to thank the Rangers and everyone who contributed to this forum and the wealth of information provided.

I would also like the time to request a mentor as 5 months closes in till the date I leave. My ship date as of now is 20111121 to Ft. Jackson, then Ft. Sam and then to Ft. Benning. As per the post by RangerDoc, I plan on submitting a Ranger Medic packet during the first week of AIT.

Peterk,

I might see you at some point, my contract is the exact same but my ship date is a month earlier. I, too, plan on submitting a Ranger Medic packet during AIT. Hopefully our futures will be deeply entwined, can't hurt to have a buddy and support system. ;)

Kenmichi, glad to hear you got what you wanted as well. It would be great if we ran into each other while at basic or AIT, but since your going before me, work hard. Hopefully we both end up where we want to be.

I will also have a PT test administered (on my own accord) for now and have them up here as soon as I can. Got a lot of work for school with it being my last month, praise the Lord.
