The way I became a Ranger and have earned the small amount of success I have had in life has been mostly due to one quality - determination. Lefty.

SGTHockman wrote:Good afternoon,

I'd like to introduce myself to this Forum. I am a Ranger who served in the ARMY 1981-1984. I was assigned to the 1st Ranger Battalion as a Forward Observer (13F) and served on a FIST Team attached to Charlie Company. I graduated from Ranger School in Class 6-82 Zulu Company. I'm pretty new to this online stuff and would appreciate any and all guidance as I navigate. My son is currently at Fort Benning in RASP holdover. He graduated OSUT on 11/12/10 and Airborne School on 12/10/10 and is waiting for the next RASP class to start. It was great to be back at Benning for both those graduations and spent the better part of a week on Fryar Drop Zone watching my son's class train and jump. Was glad to have the opportunity to talk with some of the new Rangers; things sure have changed a lot since I was in! (Tan berets don't look too bad once you get used to them!)

I'd like to ask a few questions:

I noticed that several of the administrators serve as mentors to those aspiring to become one of the best (AKA Rangers) and wondered if my son could request this? It's been almost 30 years since I've BTDT and it sure would be nice to have more recent graduate help guide/advise him. I do keep in touch with a few of my buddies from Battalion who've been career soldiers but it always helps to get guidance from others. First and foremost, he already knows; DON'T EVER QUIT.

How do you use the avatars and create a signature for posting?

Thanks,

Sent you a PM regarding your question. Short version is yes, he can request a mentor, but he's really in the chute now, so doesn't make sense.
