Introduction

Post by droliviakwan »

Hello,

I am a pre-med student from california. My fiance has always been attracted to the military but for family reason has waited until now to pursue his military career. He has done a lot of soul searching recently and has concluded that becoming an Army Ranger is what he wants in life. As a loving future wife, I am more than happy to support him.

However, like most military family members I have my concerns. I do not doubt his physical abilities but I am concerned about how he will actually become a ranger. He is a college graduate and plans to go in as an officer. Since I know almost nothing about the military, I have read many different forums and sites but most have just commented on how hard it will be to get into the Rangers as an officer. I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on what it will take for him to become an ranger officer. (Is it: if you work hard enough and make the "top"at ranger school, you will get in?) We are both concerned that the Army will take control and decide where he should be. I want to make sure that we get all the info possible before he signs anything!

I recently read Married To the Military and the author mentioned having my fiance type out a POA (power of attorney) for me before he ships out. I know most soldiers have written a POA for their family members, can some one tell me what was the most important thing you decided to put in it?

Thank you all in advance for any support or help!!

Hello Ranger ZoneIV,

Thank you so much for your reply and warm welcome!

The reason why my fiance hasn't posted yet is because I beat him to the punch! I've always been very curious and I wanted all our ducks to be in a row. I found this site first and I decided to take the lead. We've been comparing notes on what we have found at different sites and forums. (Sometimes google is not your friend!! There are plenty of faux military experts.) Since there is so much info on this site, we are still working on finding our answers.

I definitely respect all the hard work, passion and strength it takes to become a ranger. I know that everything worth having in life takes hard work. I can not wait to see my fiance earn his tab!!

I may be misguided but my fiance's college degree is in Japanese language and I was hoping that if he goes in as an Officer, he would be able to utilize his college degree better. I feel like since he's got a college degree, he might as well use it! I would imagine that the army ranger regiment would want more officers?!

I really appreciate this site and hopefully I will continue to get the information I need.

Thanks,
Liv :D
