Hello Rangers,
My name is Jordan, I am a senior in high school.
Initially, my brother joined and I disliked the military - almost everything about it. Soon after he finished his AIT, he came home and I saw the change in him. I don't know what happened to him, but I wanted some too. But it started slow, I began to work out, get into shape. Shortly after, I wanted more, I wanted to do something better, I wanted to BE something better. That's when I decided I wanted to be a part of the army, something greater than myself. This is when I decided to enlist.
Not only did I change from a liberal-hearting hippy in a matter of months, I joined the army. So I signed up in May 2009 with an 11x contract. I was ignorant of the option 40, but I told them I wasn't signing anything until I was guaranteed a slot at ranger school. I'm still awaiting to find out if I got screwed, but my recruiter assures me that it's fine and he's just "waiting".
My first PT test is May 12th. I have been doing p90x as a way to prepare me for training.
Thank you for the website

Re: Introduction-Jordan
Welcome, Jordan, and congratulations for enlisting. You seriously need to renogtiate your contract. No no is gets "Ranger School" in an enlistment contract. Repeat: No one. You want to re-no for and Option 40 which gets you a shot at RASP - Ranger Assessment and Selection Program. Insist on it. Tell your recruiter that you won't ship. If he comes back and says all he can get you is an Option 4 (Airborne) tell him that's not good enough. Others have done it, you can, too. Be sure to read and heed the ROE PM I have sent you.
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

Re: Introduction-Jordan
Ranger Bill,
I talked to my recruiter and was told that because of our current economic recession, the Ranger slots haven't opened yet. Once they do, he says he will let me know, then I will be brought down to MEPS and put the option 40 into my contract. Thank you.
Ranger al_2ndWolfhounds,
Thank you for the support.

Re: Introduction-Jordan
Rangers,
I took my first PT test today:
PU: 46
SU: 75
2-mile: 15:54
I got 60 points or more in each event, so I'm happy that I passed it. I leave for Infantry training this Wednesday, June 9th. I did not secure an option 40, and I'm not waiting as a DEP any longer for one. I understand this leaves it up to chance somewhat, but I'm ready to be an infantryman, I've been a DEP for over a year and a month.
I will do my best to excel in OSUT and as long as my PT scores improve I will be very qualified. My GT score is in the 120's and my ASVAB raw score was a 77.
Those scores were not self-administered.
Take care Rangers
