TRUE STORY: Beaver beaten too much

Post by Boudicca »

DURANT, OK — Tests on the head of a 60-pound beaver that attacked a 5-year-old boy were inconclusive as to whether the animal had rabies, the State Department of Health said Wednesday.

The child’s stepfather damaged the beaver’s head too much when he beat it to death, officials said.

“Several sections of the brain material were needed,” said Laurence Burnsed, an epidemiologist for the Health Department. “The skull was crushed to a point where there wasn’t enough brain material.”

On Saturday, a Durant child was attacked by the beaver after he and a sibling went outside to get their cat and he tried to pet the beaver.

The boy was treated for leg injuries at a hospital and released.

This was in our local newspaper, and curiously enough, the area to make comments said:
"Due to the number of comments that violate our terms and conditions, the Tulsa World has elected to disable comments for this article."

Even the radio announcers could NOT stop giggling and laughing. One asked "what do you think the father is going to do with this beaver now?" Reply: "I dunno, maybe he's gonna eat it."

"Can you eat beaver?" [immediate laughter from the ENTIRE studio]

Well, I've often said, "Don't trap more beaver than you can eat."

OK, the boy went out for a little pussy and he got nibbled when he tried to pet the beaver...

(this is why the newspaper disabled the public comment function after that article. Well damn, if they hadn't lit the fuse!)

I can only imagine how traumatized this kid will be for the rest of his life. I'm sure he will be avoiding beavers for a long time especially knowing how many shots he will have to endure and the cost involved. I can only see this as a good thing really; the hardest lessons in life are the ones that hurt the most.

I keep thinking about how hard and how much that father had to beat that beaver to get it to turn loose?!! And did the beaver enjoy it??

Unlike the rest of us that beat beavers on a regular basis, you were probably pre-occupied.
