Lyrics that mean something to you

Post by Jenny Lynn »

Lately since I've had more time on my hands I seem to think and listen more to the music I play, at times some lyrics just seem to jump out and stop me in my tracks as if they are saying just what I'm thinking or feeling right there and then.

Not sure if anyone else has a song, lyric etc that has moved them but if so how about posting it here in this thread

Ok since I started this thread I'll go first

Godsmack's- I Stand Alone lyrics

Now I've told you this once before
You can't control me
If you try to take me down you're gonna break

the lyrics to me relate to two things currently going on for me

1. things surfacing about the place I use to work for until about 2 months ago and how various people have been impacted

2. my aunt in hospice who has only been given a few more days while my mom who has been caretaking her is dealing with health issues herself

for those interested, here's video of the song on youtube:

Anything by Shinedown speaks to me. Especially from their first album and the emotional state I was in at that time. I'll cut/paste some here in a few, if this thread gets going. Otherwise - they're kept for me.

Ranger 42L5V,

You are correct, everything from Shinedown speaks you could just go through their albums and pull out song after song with awesome lyrics.

I have found that songs that you have heard time and time again suddenly everything starts to have a new meaning once you've enlisted. I just remember watching 4th of July fireworks after having enlisted while they played Lee Greenwood, it was as if it were the first time I had really heard the song, seen fireworks, or experienced the 4th. Was humbling to say the least.

SHINEDOWN-

[Chorus]
I created the Sound of Madness.
Wrote the book on pain.
Somehow I'm still here,
To explain,
That the darkest hour never comes in the night.
You can sleep with a gun.
When you gonna wake up and fight...for yourself

love that tune just pumps me up.

In the howlin' wind
Comes a stingin' rain
See it drivin' nails
Into the souls on the tree of pain.

From the firefly
A red orange glow
See the face of fear
Runnin' scared in the valley below.

Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue
Bullet the blue.

In the locust wind
Comes a rattle and hum.
Jacob wrestled the angel
And the angel was overcome.

You plant a demon seed
You raise a flower of fire.
We see them burnin' crosses
See the flames, higher and higher.

Woh, woh, bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue
Bullet the blue.

Suit and tie comes up to me
His face red like a rose on a thorn bush
Like all the colours of a royal flush
And he's peelin' off those dollar bills
(Slappin' 'em down)
One hundred, two hundred.

And I can see those fighter planes
And I can see those fighter planes
Across the mud huts as children sleep
Through the alleys of a quiet city street.
Up the staircase to the first floor
We turn the key and slowly unlock the door
As a man breathes into his saxophone
And through the walls you hear the city groan.
Outside, is America
Outside, is America
America.

See across the field
See the sky ripped open
See the rain comin' through the gapin' wound
Howlin' the women and children
Who run into the arms
Of America.

Steam-Powered Aereoplane
John Hartford

Well I dreamt I went away on a steam-powered aereoplane.
Well, I went and I stayed and I damn near didn't come back again.
I didn't go very fast on a steam-powered aereoplane.
well the wheel went around and up and down and inside and then back again.

Chorus:
Sittin' in a 747 just watchin' them clouds go by,
can't tell if it's sunshine or it's rain.
I'd rather be sittin' in a deck chair high up over Kansas City
in a genuine, old-fashion, authentic steam-powered aereoplane.

Well I dreamt I was a pilot on a steam-powered aereoplane.
I'd turn that pilot wheel around and then back again.
I'd wear a blue hat saying "Steam-Powered Aereoplane"
with the letters go 'round the brim and then back again.

Chorus
