I'd be -5, but from what I have seen and heard, "High Speed, Electric and Dangerous" is a big understatement for these studs. Hell, I'd just like to get the opportunity to watch the New Studs roll through an OBJ.Silverback wrote:I have to say that I have zero need to repeat any of that stuff...the past is past for me. Re: Old Rangers vesus New Rangers
One of the newer guys accused me of getting soft and sentimental. Its none of that. Its recognition of several things.
1st. Some of the older Rangers (non-Viet Nam) like to talk about back when it was tough. I dont think being a Ranger was ever easy. EVER.
2nd: The dynamics of our Rangers today doesnt EVEN look easy. Fact is, it takes a pretty smart man to be a successful Ranger in todays world.
3rd: We have young men less than 25 yrs old with 6-7 combat tours. The past is the past. The boys today who have been part of OIF, OEF, have done things, urban warfare, CQC, and mission dynamics that we may have trained some for but damned if we ever did it. Not like this. These boys not only go but sign up to go again and again, and again.......
And last....Im not sure we honor these young men as much as we should. Its not about us older men anymore and it shouldnt be. Its about now. Id hate to let a day go by that I dont look at them and say, you ROCK! Id hate to meet one and not take the chance to say...You impress the hell out of me. Id hate to think I was so self absorbed that I would talk about myself when we have men doing it NOW. Ive met alot of them. They are better, smarter, more realistic, and better equipted than I ever was. Im not humble....but Im not stupid either. We dont have many Rangers. There is a reason for that. But the ones on the ground doing the deeds now....they need to be told how much we admire, appreciate, and respect them.

Andy, As usual, I agree with you. I served with one of the WWII Rangers, and I've known a fair number of Rangers and Marauders. To a man they were sharp and tough. Rangering has evolved since Darby started training in Northern Ireland; it has become more sophisticated and technical. But it still takes good men to make it work. Looking both back and forward, Abrams gamble sure paid off.Rock Island Ranger wrote: 1st. Some of the older Rangers (non-Viet Nam) like to talk about back when it was tough. Okay I'm trying something here since I am new to this site, after giving Ranger/Admin a hug. Is this quote going to show up as my signature or what? LOL, acutally this quote is my sons quote while at war, so I put it on here for him. The Warriors Mom

Re: Old Rangers vesus New Rangers
The FOG's on this board speak abounds when talking of Rangers young & old & this FOG also agrees with all including Jim:
I daily sit in awe as I read posts of all generations Rangers here. The soldiers along side us, our pilots, medical, artillery, rifle platoons, girlfriends, (friends girlfriends!) & even the parents we think about from time to time - all are important to me/us.
so far we have all come throughout the years - ready to do the work assigned - hard Rangers each & everyone of them.excerpt of Jim wrote: Today's Rangers are truly the best trained and equipped Rangers we've ever had
