ALS now a Presumptive Compensable Illness w/ VA

Post by smokn38 »

Cites Association between Military Service and Later Development of ALS

WASHINGTON – Veterans with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) may receive badly-needed support for themselves and their families after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced today that ALS will become a presumptively compensable illness for all veterans with 90 days or more of continuously active service in the military.

Ranger Silverback is right different disease, but with several similarities. This change mirrors what the Social Security Administration does. If you are diagnosed with ALS you are getting benefits no questions asked, no lengthy wait. At this point ALS affects Veterans at a higher rate than the general public. MS also has some service connected interest as well. The difference beiong ALS is probably going to kill you within 3-5 years from when you found out. Definately a good move on VA's part.

I post this because ALS has a high occurrence in veterans. This is a step in the right direction and will assist in working on med's and other solutions to this disease.
