ARMY PR Event inspired me greatly.
---Rangers, below is a story, read if you wish; however, the meat is under the bolded text. I do not wish to waste any more of your time than I already have.---
I had a chance to go on one of those ARMY PR Future Soldier trips as my ship date isn't until January, 09.
I had expected it to be a PR event, and mostly a 3 day vacation, because they were encouraging mothers and fathers to come along. I expected a sugar coated type talk. But to my surprise I was immersed in a world of real Troopers, who probably against their orders, gave us real, solid, and sound stories, that worried parents and ignited the fire in their soldiers eyes.
One of the Major's talking to us was entirely animated and excited about what he did and does on deployments. He talked about the parts that sucked for him, but all in all He loved his job, entirely.
But what had the biggest impact on me was meeting a Green Beret, Ranger Tabbed, Lieutenant Colonel. He was talking to the Cav Scouts in our litte group about ABN and such.
My MOS, currently, is 37F-Reserve. He approached me, and shook my hand. He asked me what my MOS was, and I told him 37F- PSYOP. He said something about being part of the same Special Operations Family and butter coated a lot of everything. And when he was about to go I called out to him ad said, "Sir, I'd like to be a Ranger.. But my contract is with the Reserves as 37F."
The way the man addressed me changed a bit, and he became more like you guys here, on a man-to-man level. And it was more like I imagined a SF/Range Tabbed Officer to be.
(For everyone who didn't want to read the story above, please start reading here as it is the REAL meat. Thank you all.)
He gave me his card, and told me that regaurdless of what my paperwork says, to tell the people down in Benning(my BCT spot) of my intentions to become a Ranger. He then told me to work hard, and push myself hard in BCT, and if I proved myself worthy of a shot at Ranger they'd tell me and get things set up.
He said because my MOS is under the same "family" that it wouln't be terribly hard to try to line that up.
He is a Lieutenant Colonel, so I take his word solidly.
I just want to know if anyone has ever head of this before/done this before.
I don't want to go down there, like a bratty kid, and mention that I want to be a Ranger even though my MOS is 37F as Reserve. That's the last thing I want to put those people through down there.
Thanks Rangers and all.

You would have to be in one hell of a reserve unit for them to send you to Ranger School.
Could happen I guess, I am sure others will be along shortly to help you out.
Might need to redo your contract. Stick around, advise will come.

My Unit has Ranger Tabbed guys, A Ranger who was part of the rescue mission in Simolia covered in Balckhawk Down, NCO's getting ready to leave the unit for SF Selection and I think two more were leaving to try for Ranger. My unit is a HOO-AH unit. I'm thankful for that, I got lucky with that one. I'm fully aware of that.
I'll stand by.
Are you in one of the few PSYOP reserve units on jump status?SkippyOne wrote:Roger That Ranger Fishboy,Fishboy wrote:You would have to be in one hell of a reserve unit for them to send you to Ranger School.

I sent a message in the way of the unit and I'll report back with a name as soon as I get it.
Hopin' to get that for you, perhaps you can give me tips on staying on the Ranger's good side if you know him. I'm sure if I can get through the loops and get a shot a Ranger sooner or later, he'll be a major help in my success.
