Tired and tested ways to gain weight?

Post by onebadshot556 »

Im sure some of the Rangers on here are having the same problems as I do keeping weight on.
Anyone have some solid ways to build up weight? Seems with the amount of running, swimming and crossfit style PT's in our training program its impossible to keep weight on.
I eat as much as possible, mostly smaller meals/snacks throughout the day.
If im able to hit of the gym I have a 32g whey protein shake after I lift.
I'm 5 11 and been stuck at about 170-175. Id like to get up to about 185.

Anyone have some good food items/snacks they like to use? Full of protein, carbs etc? That are easy to keep in a barracks room (have a fridge and a microwave).
I'm almost to the point of adding MRE's to my regular diet, nothing better then a veggie omelet.

You mean tried and tested. But anyway try increasing your meat intake. A larger steak and taters meal for diner. Eat more protein and increase your beer intake! :D

Getting old helps. Oh and if you get too FAT it becomes harder to lose as age increases.

What about increasing your muscle mass? Increase the anarobic workout and decrease the arobic.

I would say that your body knows what it is doing and that it likes 170-175. That extra 10 or 15 pounds will just slow you down, but if you just have to put on weight try increasing the number of sets you do on your big exercises like squats, dead lifts, presses. I have read that taking branched chain amino acids will help bulk up, but I have never tried it.

There is only one way to gain weight: You must consume more calories than your body uses. The reverse is true to lose weight.

Eat foods high in caloric content and avoid anything that is low fat, and lift weights so the mass you do gain is more muscle than fat. Keep your weightlifting in the range of no more than 8 to 10 reps per set using the heaviest weight you can while maintaining good form. My guess is that if you consume about 1,000 more calories per day than you are now, you should be able to add about one pound every two weeks or so.

1. Get married.

2. Retire from the Army, continue to eat fast as hell and consuming mass calories, like you did when you were running 20 miles a week before 0800, but now you only exercise once a week if you can find the time.
