I second Ranger JLTW's recomendation, Ranger Nomad. We enjoyed Grand Cayman and got a great deal on airfare/hotel for a week. Lots to see and do, excellent accomodations and food, and English is spoken everywhere. They do drive on the wrong side of the road, so watch out for that if you rent a car to go see the whole island.JLTW!!! wrote: Check out the Cayman Islands, especially Grand Cayman. Absolutely the best place I've ever been....beautiful snorkleing and/or diving, excellent fresh seafood, cheap booze, etc..

X4 on Xcaret and Tulum, Ranger Nomad.
We did a combo bus trip that took us to Tulum in the morning and then stopped at Xcaret for the afternoon. That water was awesome, just like Ranger Earthpig said. It's a great way to cool off after climbing around on the pyramids.
If you want to go to a good restaurant in Cancun proper that isn't a tourist joint, catch a cab to 'La Habichuela". Local family owned and operated, they have a real nice courtyard in the back. It's pretty much right downtown. I got the rec from a local when I asked him where he liked to eat.
If you get down to Playa del Carmen, you can also check into a high speed ferry ride over to Cozumel which, to me, is much more "old school mexican".

Fuck Mexico...Go to Destin, FL...most of 'em speak English, the beaches are more beautiful, you will be spending your money in the USA, the trim is plentiful, and you can be invisible...(no hijack/hostage sticker on your back).
Just a thought...but what do I know?!?

The 06 and I just got back last night from the Turks and Caicos Islands in the British West Indies. We were married there ten years ago and went back for the anniversary.
If you've got kids, then the Beaches resort is the place to go. Plenty of activities for the kids and seriously all inclusive. Nothing like drinking vodka and orange juice at 10am by the pool.

This thread needs pic of hot chicks in bikini's showing of the tourist getaways.

Thanks for the recommendation. The food and service were excellent.Oilpatch wrote: If you want to go to a good restaurant in Cancun proper that isn't a tourist joint, catch a cab to 'La Habichuela". Not certified yet, Brother. Was going to take the two day scuba course through PADI but simply had too much going on (food poisoning etc).rangertough wrote:T-
Now that you're a certified diver type when you get back up here I'll take you to some great spots. Have fun on the vacation brother.

Did however complete my first 45 minute dive at 33ft - it was awesome!
I'll get my cert as soon as I can next time and then it's on. I really enjoyed the experience.

Don't forget having icecubes in your drink is the same as drinking water.Nomad wrote:No shit.Parabellum wrote:DON'T DRINK THAT WATER!Nomad wrote:I am heading there for the next five days. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do, which places to avoid etc?
