Introduction
Hi Guys,
My name is James, and I found this site in my search to learn more about the Army Rangers and what is required to become one.
I’m 23, originally from Western Canada and moved to the states at the start of high school with my mom and sister. At the end of high school I was in the Young Marines (JROTC) and was pretty set on going in right out of HS, luckily I got talked out of it and went to university and earned my Bachelors of Finance and was able to be in the workplace for 2 years. After sitting at a desk for so long, my longing to be in the military has not ceased nor wavered in any respect, so here I am back at square one, planning my entry into the service.
Since I was born in Canada I am not a citizen yet, I have a green card
right now and my 5years wherein become eligible to apply for citizenship is 13NOV08. I unfortunately let myself fall out of shape, from when I was in JROTC and doing Taekwondo 4 days a week I was able to keep myself in peak fitness, but have since let that fall by the wayside. Today I begin training with an outfit called US Fitness Corps with the sole goal of getting into better shape than I was in previously.
I have 9 months to get myself into the shape I need to be, and to figure out what I want to do and what questions I need to ask in order to get what I need from a recruiter.
One thing I am unsure about is do I go into the rangers as Enlisted or do I go for a Commission? That is one thing I have yet to get a straight answer from anyone I have talked with. I have a friend who is in the army, currently a Sgt with the signal corps doing satellite communication. He actually wants to change and go for training to eventually become a ranger medic. Very Happy
I left my last job as a financial Analyst because firstly I wasn’t getting paid, company had no money, and secondly because I couldn’t take piloting a desk anymore. I need something High speed that I need to think on my feet constantly. I am also an avid firearms collector, with not a large collection at the moment of only 2 pistols (Sig Sauer SP2022 9mm, Glock 26) and am in the process of building an AR-15 with a 10.5 barrel (Will be one sweet piece of machinery when it’s completed).
Well I apologize for such a long introductory post, but I am a very upfront and direct person with nothing to hide, especially not from you guys.

Thank you Rangers for the welcome
Ranger BushHog, Ranger Kilted Heathen may hate Immigrants, but my family moved here to have a better life. In coming to this country i have come to love it, I am a firm believer and staunch supporter of the United States Constitution, which every member of the United States Armed Forces is sworn to uphold. I can handle being hated for this.

Welcome and thank you for your interest in serving our country as an Army Ranger. I know you are full of enthusiasm and appreciate that. But for your benefit, be sure to read and heed the PM I have sent you.
In this thread, you need to refrain from posting again except to specifically answer questions by a Ranger. I am trying to help you succeed here, primarily becasue we share a common heritage and I have many relatives in Canada.

WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

Spare me the noble sentiments. Read the forums. All of them. In fact, hit the search button a few times. You'll find there's been more than one non-citizen that has needed some help to chart his progress through the INS system. You er, may learn a thing or two there.Erydius wrote:Thank you Rangers for the welcome

We don't need fucking reminded what we have sworn to uphold either. A lot of us are just returned from actually upholding it rather than...staunchly supporting it.
So...when you're told to shut the fuck up there's a reason.
Hit the search button and find it.

You said that nobody will give you a straight answer as to whether or not you should go into the Rangers as Enlisted Man or if you should go for a Commission. You are getting a bit ahead of yourself here.
The best way to learn is by doing. Enlist first. If you are motivated then you can TRY to become a Ranger as an EM; plenty of info on this site as to how you should go about that.
If you still want to be an officer then maybe you can go to OCS after you get some experience. Then, if you excel at your job, you will be granted the opportunity to return to the Rangers as a Junior Officer so that you can continue to learn and grow. Don't worry about your age, you are still young enough to go this route and succeed.
In the meantime, search and read...
