R.I.P. Ranger Herman Floyd Long

Herman Floyd Long, age 78, passed away on Dec. 16, 2007 after an extended illness.

He was a native of Haleyville, Ala., but lived the last 40 years in Rutherford County.

Command Sgt. Major Long served in the United States Army. During his career he served with the 2nd, 3rd, and 9th Infantry Division and saw combat in The Korean Conflict and Vietnam War and is a holder of the Bronze Star. CSM Long also was on the cadre of the elite Ranger Training School at Eglin AFB Field 7 where he was instrumental in teaching Rangers for the United States Army for over 9 years. He had 25 years of service. His last military assignment was with the ROTC Department at M.T.S.U. After his retirement he taught ROTC at Riverdale High School.
