Introduction

Post by hooahbell »

Hello Rangers,

My name is Loren and I am 20 years old. In high school I spent all four years in JROTC dreaming of one day becoming an Army Ranger. In my junior year of high school I went to MEPs and got an 11xOption40 contract. Everything was going well, I felt I was prepared mentally and physically and overall was very excited at getting my shot. Then a couple weeks before I was set to ship I had a terrible tubing accident. I was being pulled behind a boat on a tube and my shoulder got ripped out of socket. (my fault I know) I could not leave for the Army, so I decided to get surgery and go to college.

I just finished my two year degree. I also just graduated the police academy and passed the state exam. I started filling out applications for local police departments and realized that being a law enforcement officer is not my dream. (as of right now)

Ever since I could not leave for the Army I have felt a huge emptiness. I just recently went to the recruiter down the street to restart the MEPs process. Last week I took the ASVAB again and improved my scores. I also went to the Doctor to release papers for my shoulder. I am currently waiting on the Army to receive these papers. The recruiter said “if you do need a waiver at all, you will not be able to get a Ranger contractâ€

Welcome to the site and thanks for your desire to serve as an Army Ranger.

I will let the experts chime in on this, but IMHO I think in this situation you should be able to get another option40 contract, waiver or no waiver.

Best wishes to you in whatever you end up doing.

Good intro.

I understand where you are coming from and leaving some things unfinished seems to not sit right with you.

My thoughts are that if you can make it through a police academy, then you should be able to make it through BCT.

Welcome and thank you for your desire to become an Army Ranger. I am no expert, but we have had a number of DEPs on this site who received Option 40 contracts with a waiver. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Nice tap-out! I liked the way you took the fight to him from the very beginning. I didn't know skinny dudes could grapple like that.

Welcome to the site, and good luck with your career choices. What Academy did you graduate from?

Wow, thank you all for such quick replies!

I feel a little better about this whole process. Maybe this all happened for a reason. I will keep everyone updated on my status, and hopefully one day soon I will be on my way to being a cherry in the regiment.

I went to Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy in Tallahassee, Florida.

Thank you Rangers, I truly appreciate it.

Well, Loren, a man has only one opportunity to create a favorable initial impression. You succeeded. If you truly want to earn a place in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came to the right site. The DEPs will be along to assist you. When you go back to your recruiter, you will have to request a medical waiver. I expect that there should be no problem obtaining one. Never, never quit!

Good intro. Now I have a question. You actually pay someone to cut your hair like that?

just got back from MEPs

Post by hooahbell »

Hello Rangers,

Repassed everything at MEPs today...but still need a waiver. Recruiter says that I will have a waiver next week, but he is still trying to pull "if you need a waiver" there is no way I could ever get Airborne or Ranger in my contract. He told me to sign 11x and "they will ask me in basic" I have read enough forums to know this is not true. What should i do?

(p.s. I already did pushups for my grammatical errors)

Thanks again Rangers...
