Disc replacement surgery

Post by Rangerguru »

My back doctor told me that I would be a prime candidate for this procedure a couple of years ago, but he wanted to wait until it had been tried out on more people to see what the results would be. After reading this, I might go get it done, the other alternatives are fusing, or lots of drugs, which I refuse to take.

Interesting article. My wife has degenerative disks in her neck which cause her to have extreme neck pain on ocaision. Fusion has been offered to her as a solution, which she has refused. I'd be more interested
in a solution like this if they were using artificial disks material or disks grown from her own tissue.

Thanks for the link.

it says discs from human donors, so I'm assuming dead guys.

That's a pretty interesting article, Ranger Rangerguru. I wonder when there is going to be some more research done on it, it might benefit alot of people.

Hopefully the tissue will be handled properly, too. I know cadaver tissue is used in hundreds of thousands of procedures every year, but fiascos like that mess with BTS-- http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=1902764&page=1 , can make you think twice about having some procedures.
