I agree.

But then, books are almost ALWAYS better.
I agree also. Gates of Fire did something better, (the movie didn't have time) it went into the life prior to the fight. Giving a better view of Spartan life. It described the warrior race from the get go till death on the field of battle.

I personally would sit through a 10 hour movie to see it on the big screen.

I wouldn't mind seeing HBO pick it up as a miniseries a la Band Of Brothers. Then they could do it right.

That would be a great idea. Start where Gates of Fire started maybe a few years before and take it to after the battle of Platea.

I am listening to Bill Bennett "Morning in America" on Sirius at this moment.

He reports that the Iranians are "furious" over the movie. They claim it is anti Persian.

Anti Persian? It fucking happened. Too bad so sad. We can't help it if their ancestors were so fucking stupid that they charged a phalanx carrying wicker shields; dozens of times.

Didn't they do the same thing in that war with Saddam in the 80s? I seem to remember they would send waves of teenage boys into mne fields in front of their troops.

Dear God. I saw the movie twice last weekend. Didn't care much for the back plot, being as spartan society consisted of two kings and no parliment type, instead of one rouge king and a parliment. But the fighting was unbelievable. The valor and bravado of those spartans was so well portrayed and so intense it was almost overwhelming the first time I saw it.

As a side note, I was watching a thing on the making of the movie on discovery channel or history channel or something and the muscles on those actors are not digitally inhanced at all. In between takes, after the shoot, before the shoot, all those guys just passed around weights and just sat their pumping them or doing sit ups or push ups. It was fucking unbelivable.
I hate it when people jerk around with the system and get off. Im guilty, I should pay, no excuses

The ever rational, charming Islamic Republic of Iran have opened up their hypocritical mouths against the new Hollywood blockbuster movie, 300. 300 is a semi-fictional artistic interpretation of a real historical war against the Persians and the Spartans, in which the history books write that 300 Spartans fought off a massive army of attacking Persians.

I guess they should have been depicted as scrawny little Iranians that took 3 days for over a million of them to kill 1000 Greeks (300 Spartans and 700 Thespians).
