I didn't EVER get to go to the PX by myself......a lot of the times, only the platoon (trainee) PSG got to go.....If we did get to go, we were ONLY allowed toiletries...no candy, no magazines, nothing...soap and kiwi. And we fucking marched the whole time, and didn't friggin talk.

We didn't get nights off...we didn't get weekends off....Sundays were an easier day, church and barracks maintenance......

I got to use the phone twice, MAYBE 3 times......The first time was after WEEK 9.........

There was a 3 hour pass that I somehow missed out on, and then we had Family day.......THAT'S IT!

By historical standards, my basic was prolly a lot easier the those who went before me.

The stories I hear now make me sick. My father-in-law's POS son went through basic and said it was "fun". (He's since been chaptered out.)

Fucking no part of basic was fucking fun for me! Airborne school should have been easy, but I was too worried about RIP, for good reason.

Listen up cupcakes......WE ARE AT WAR.......Al Queda Doesn't give a flying fuck....our enemies are trying desperately to kill us and our way of life..........If your basic training was easy, you should feel fucking cheated!
I was told that my Basic was harder because of the upcoming war in Iraq.....that the gloves were coming off......not sure if it's true, but I'm glad that our DS's were hard on us.

Thus endeth the sermon.
I went through in basic in 2000 and it was almost exactly as you've explained it. If they're making it easier they are definitely doing the army a misfavor for breeding weak soldiers. It seems every other rip graduate I get now days is so poorly trained, I have to put in a ridiculous amount of energy to teach them the fundamentals. It just pisses me off.

It's not the RIP cadres fault. These fucksticks aren't getting trained for shit in the IET phase (too busy at the PX or on the computer). I imagine these guys being way worse when they first arrive at RIP. RIP cadre do an excellent job of training these guys, but they still don't get enough time to train everbody to be proficient in every little thing.

I agree basic was way to easy. Though, at Ft Knox there are several different basic training programs being tried out. C 1/46 is on a 12 week pilot program where they spend 23 days in the field, A2/46 (where i was at) is on a realy relaxed program, D 1/46 is on a program that does 7 or so days in the field w. some hard ass DS's .. IM not sure why they are doing different programs though. I know that my DS's were realy cool to us though. They did teach us alot because they all have combat experience. They told us that they didnt want any of us to end up like the 507th, therefore we all know how to use our equipment to standard.

One of my Ds's (11b) has his combat patch from Operation Just cause and the MOG w/ 10th mountain.
Another (MP) has his "combat patch" from Bosnia....7.62 round to the stomach
ANd out platoon sgt spent time in Bosnia and Kosovo

So they all had valuable information for us. It was just up to you whether or not you listend.

combat patch for Bosnia?

i know that some guys got wounded over there and were given purple hearts, but the operation DID NOT recieve authorization for the SSI-FWS.

AR 670-1 dated 5 SEP 03 tells by unit and operation what operations recieved the "combat patch". Bosnia is NOT one of them.

Notice that BeerForMe placed the words combat patch in italics. It's a joke. The MP's combat patch is his war wound. A bullet scar on the stomach.

In basic the only pass we had was after graduation and it was only a 12 hour pass to spend with our families.AFter that when I went across the tracks to AIT The only pass we seen were a trip to the small px and that was only for 3 hours and only on sundays and to top it off only for the soldier who were in the high classes. Basically if your just on week one you werent shit and didnt get shit. This was all at Ft.Sill.

One time they were allowed a Main Post pass. My husband said that basic was fun but one of their DS was a Ranger so all the guys going to RIP were smoked more than the others.
In that case I am going to make sure that they get locked down every weekend at RIP.
