Intro.
Hello All,
I came here at the urging of RngrPuck who I just met a few weeks ago. We got to talking and he found out that I had been in the Army and even gone to Ranger School the same year that he did. Anyway, here is the long and short of what I've done and what I'm up to now.
I entered the Army on 16 OCT 85 and attended Basic Training at the Sand Hilton, Ft. Benning GA (A-6-1). I graduated basic as an 11HE9 on 31 January 86 (if I remember correctly) and went immediately to jump school already having orders for 3ID in West Germany. Successful completion of Airborne School did not change my assignment as I was hoping it would and I went to Germany for the next two years, 86-88. I attended French Commando School (Class 9Z in Givet, France) while assigned to 1/7th Infantry, 3ID (Cottonbalers). Then it was off to Ft. Bragg and the 82d Abn Division for my next assignment, 2/505th PIR and my E-5 stripes were waiting on me as it turns out. I found out that an individual could compete for a Ranger School slot by passing the Ranger PT test (including swim test) and attending RIP onpost. I immediately started working to that end and got my slot for RIP only to have a paperwork snafu sideline me from attending. So I went on block leave with the rest of my battalion. Upon arriving back at Ft. Bragg two weeks later, I was offered a slot to Ranger School without having to attend RIP. Turns out that the guy in line in front of me got popped on a urinalysis test for cocaine and was no longer in the running and no one else wanted to go on such short notice. I went to Ranger School ( Class 13-88 ) from 11 AUG 88 - 11 OCT 88 on the 58 day plan. In hindsight, even though I made it through I should have been made to go to RIP as I was nowhere near as prepared as the bat boys.
After Ranger School I went to the Sinai Peninsula as part of the MFO and received my EIB while there. Then off to PLDC and BNCOC finally. I was at JROTC in Ft Chaffee Arkansas when Desert Shield started and deployed immediately as part of the 82d Abn contingent. I participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and received my CIB and was awarded an MSM for duties performed while the 2nd Section Leader for 1st Platoon, D. Company. I spent a little over another year in the Army with the 82d after that and ETS'd on 22 FEB 92.
Anything else you need to know, all you have to do is ask. I appreciate the service of of all the fine men on this board and look forward to joining this elite group of individuals. Thank you all for your service and your sacrifices.

And I totally forgot to give the update on what I've been doing since I left the Army.
I got out of the Army in FEB 1992 and tried college for awhile. It didn't take and so I fell into bartending at a local bar that had just opened at the time. I started as the newbie bartender and within a year I was managing the place. Fast-forward 14 years and I'm now one of the owners of the same bar with a beautiful wife of 6 years and a 3 year old little girl that is the world to me. I still like to break out the arsenal when I'm able and spend some time shooting. More to follow later...
I'm off to go play "Go Fish" with my two favorite girls.

Thanks for the further update. If you own a bar, you can become wealthy off of this group!
