Intro

Post by Phattius »

This sight has been a favorite of mine for information. I know other people are more than likely to have the same questions I do. For all those who are curious, yes, the search button DOES work. I respect my leadership and try not to be the Private with the stupid question.

I joined the Active Duty Army November 2005. Having worked as a Firefighter / EMT 2 years prior to enlisting I chose to be a Medic and requested to attend Basic at Ft. Benning. Basic was a great experience and I spent the entire time as a Squad Leader. Having done ROTC I enjoyed helping my brothers in the Commando Platoon. I graduated as Soldier of the Cycle.

After earning my beret I set out to Ft. Sam Houston, Texas to become a Medic. It was scary seeing the product of each Basic Training Installation. Ft. Benning formed me. It was also an ENORMOUS shock to be thrown in with Female Soldiers and Female Drill Sergeants. I grossly disliked them but soon realized they have something to offer to the plate too... I think.

From week 2 until graduation I was a Platoon Guide for B Co. 232 MED BN and thoroughly enjoyed it. Had a shot at being Soldier of the Cycle again but in the competition when I was asked by the 1SG "Why I joined the Army" he deemed it an inappropriate response. I joined the Army to shoot terrorists in the face but the Army made me a Medic.

I took the challenge to go Airborne and had a blast at school. I LOVE jumping! I got orders to HHT 1-91 CAV in Schweinfurt, Germany and passed up volunteering for RIP. I had never been out of the country and took up my All-Expense Paid Trip to Europe. Germany is fun but I am not impressed with my Unit at all. Hind-sight is always 20/20. I am busting my ass to get ready for the rigors of RIP. My last PT score was a 314 and I shot a 39 with my rifle but there is always room for improvement. I am getting my packet ready and am ready to earn it. I hope this post is sufficient as an Intro. If there is anything else needed I already know I will hear about it.

You'll see what it means to earn a Beret when you get to back to Benning

The first Beret I earned was black, unfortunitly the first beret he was given was black. Yes it was given so the regular army could "be an army of one" and all that horse shit.

Welcome medic, I knew you would catch flack for that comment. It's probly still bitter around here with the whole beret change over crap.

After earning my beret .

You have no idea yet what it means to 'earn' a beret, if you make it to RIP and to the Regiment, you will. Good luck to you.

I'm being gentle here, because you sound like your heading in the right direction, and I like medics, it's that simple. Hell, we all like medics, they're the berries, but you better be very careful how you flaunt things around here, especially in the company of men that have 'earned' their berets the old fashioned way, and then had them stolen and given away like pieces of candy to ill-advised children.
