First free-fall skydive
Moderator: Site Admin
Good on ya! Congratulations.
I still like the way they taught freefall in HALO school when I went.
Pratice arching on desktops on Monday. Altitude chamber on Tuesday. 12,500 of the back of a Shit-hook (solo) on Wednesday.
You learn a lot in those first 30 seconds!

That is amazing! I have seen students spin uncontrolably as soon as they were released by the AFF instructor. The instructor literally has to tackle the student and get him back stable. I can't imagine the number of stories came from the teaching techniqe you outline, 'no shit there I was watching the world turn at a gazillion miles an hour, arching like a gumby doll, pulling into ten thousand line twists so that the world was turing again, and then boom there is the world' Ah....the sport needed someone to go first, better you than me...thanks!

Well, jumps 2 & 3 are behind me, along with AFF gound school. I'm ready for my first solo sometime in early September, after I come back from my roadtrip through the Grand Canyon and New Mexico.
On an unrelated note: GSXRanger, your avatar's are always amazing. Significant other again? NICE! :D

Since the First Sarnt rained us in, and made me realize that we do have youngun's on here... I decided to tone back a bit. So, I just put my TrackHo up for my viewing pleasure...
But yeah, my missus ain't bad to look at.
Cheers!!!

Hey bro, I think the 1SG was just wanting to keep things from getting out of hand. Having a squared away avatar is still good to go. The rules are the same - no pink (whether that be areola or what-have-you). Bottom line - don't be afraid to entertain us with your choice of avatars!

Late I know, Rangers but here it is...

Utahlanman,
Rangers...This is late-I know, I'll drop after I type this...but there are a few things for your USPA A lics, that you may already be squared away on, but your vacation dates you mentioned prompt me to raise the point of student jump deadlines between jumps required for your A lics.
I have seen too many disappointed students who let the 30 days get in between jumps, and the USPA has you go through a "ground refresher, and then it's back to JM evaluation jumps...delays, delays.
Just a head's up anyway.
Regardless, congrats on your first AFF! You never lose the thrill...nothing like it.
2x on Ranger Headoutdadoor's comment...it is important to get one's own rig as soon as you can afford it. Figure out what you want, and how you want it (you will have a good idea by the time you get your A lics.) and then get it. Your canopy skills will improve MUCH faster with your own rig. consistency.
Also 2x on the learning to pack your own chute. Get the video, and just do it over and over in your loving room until you got. Have it repacked if you want at the DZ until you are cock sure you have it packed right. Any packer will be able to unpack it and tell you how you did. ..you'll know in your gut when you have it. Then it's even better that first jump on your own pack job!
I know this is long, but maybe some others here may get the itch to stand in the door again. God knows we need more squared away personnel to balance out the tie dyed hippies at my home DZ. (Deland FL.) Blue Skies! Sua Sponte
