French Foreign Legion: Badass or not?
Just got done watching part one of a three part series on the FFL on the Military Channel. They seem pretty tough on their recruits, but is it all a show? Do they actually go to combat, unlike the rest of France? Since France is so pussified I find it hard to believe these guys are very badass....found this tidbit interesting: They said back in WWI they recruited only foreigners so the French blood wouldn't be spilled...hence the Foreign Legion moniker. Guess the French continue that tradition today huh?

That was a dumb-ass reality show.
They were not entering the Legion, they were just trying to fucking "find' themselves during a simulated four week course.

Currently, the Legion is the only unit that can be deployed without massive political turmoil in the French legislature.

In all the old FFL movies I ever saw the Legion was always in an area around sand. Well are the USTroops presently are in in a sandy location. So what else is new? or what else could we want? To sing the French anthem, just keep watching the movie with Humphrey Bogart, I think it was Casablanca when the French began singing their anthem to drown out the Germans in Rick's Cafe.Table of Elements Skater wrote:I saw that also, and I was wondering would you ever consider joining?
Ya know TOES, it aint too late. If you catch the oh thirty flight out to France and you yourself join the FFL. Why in 20 years you could make Sgt.

I am soooo thinking of the 2k ways you've set yourself up, watching home movies with a French dude about the French dude and his buddies and their barracks time...Southern_Brit wrote:Got 2 good friends who are ex-FL (Le 2ème REP) and after hearing their stories and watching a homemade video or two, I'd say you'd have to be mad to join them... it's a rough 5 years.
But in the spirit of Christmas, I am going to just laugh without blasting you.

The foreign legion is a good deal for a lot of people and has been deployed quite a bit around the world, mainly in parts of the world that the US has no vested interest in.
