First off, as an RDF MP unit, we rarely pulled road duty. About 80% of the time, we were either deployed or on field training excercises. I had a reputation as being a hard-ass when I was on patrol(except to Rangers of course). I was patrolling the area of Robert E. Lee Rd. Ft. Bliss which is very close to El Paso Int. airport. As I approached the intersection which was a 3 wat stop, a car buzzes right through the stop sign in front of me. I figure the guy is either drunk or an idiot so I pull him over. After I asked for his ID, the guy says "I'm really sorry, sir, but I can explain." I was always up for a good excuse, so I told him to go ahead. This is what the guy tells me. "Well, sir do you see that airplane flying over head?" I looked above me to verify that there was a plane. "Well, sir, I just dropped my brother-in-law off at the airport and I'm pretty sure that's his plane and since I know about where he's sitting, so I was counting windows on the plane to figure it out and I really didn't even see that stop sign."
I started laughing because I knew there was no way he could have made up that story, so I handed him back his license and told him to be more careful, then sent him on his way. I hope you guys like that one.
PS- My favorite thig to hear for an offense "I'm a civilian, you can't arrest me."
