Heights!!
Heights!!
Ok this may sound stupid BUT I scored well on the ASVAB GT was 116, score was a 70. My recruiter informed me that I can do pretty much anything. I would like to go Ranger but I was again informed their are no more Leggs Rangers all are Airbourne! I am scared of heights. Is there anything I can do to get over it?? Hate to sound like a bitch but its just the way it is. And of course every Airbourne recruiter is also scared of heights but they got over it!! Any help would be great! Thanks Mike

Rangers are semi-normal human beings who all have their fears and apprehensions. Fear can be a good thing because it heightens your senses and helps to keep you safe. The only bad fear is when you allow that fear to cripple you, and allow it to prevent you from doing your job.
I was scared the first time I jumped out of a bird. It is not a natural act. But the door jumper (the first one out) was a five foot tall chick that weighed 100lbs soak and wet. It's not like I had a lot of choice about the matter at that point, but I told myself if she could jump, then so could I.
I've never had a combat jump, but some here have. Do you think they were never scared? If they were not even a little scared at the prospect of a combat jump, I wouldn't think they were brave, I would think they were a little psychotic. Your fears are things you must learn to conquer and overcome, not elimintate altogether.

I almost drowned when I was 4 years old and I really don't feel comfortable in or around water, but I still drive on. I managed to learn to swim and I take the front seat when I go white water rafting. Fear is normal. You just have to learn to manage it. If it is a really severe problem then try to find a therapist who specializes in treating phobias.
