Welcome to the site bro and thank you for serving our Country. You may not want to become a Ranger now, but you may once you enter the "regular" armed forces. The reason some of us questioned why you decided not to go that route and your misunderstanding of that question is that you don't know anything about serving in the Military "yet". However there are good leg units and there are bad ones. If you're anything like us you'd be the kind of individual who seeks out those who aspire to be the best and are serious about their mission (Ranger cooks are some of the best in the Army).
You'll find that in the Rangers but you won't always find that in Leg Units. Good luck to you.
Oh and btw...........
DROP!!! Cooks have to do PT as well, get yourself ready

It's so seldom one of them stumbles into captivity alive!

NOOOOOOOOO
CEASE AND DESIST ALL FURTHER ACTIONS!!! You DO NOT want to be a spoon!! I was also a sous chef before joining. I planned to do my time then get out and go to New England Culinary Institute. I figured with my experience I would be able to make army chow great. Boy was I wrong!! You have to understand that there is NO (little) flexibility in the way meals are prepared, the ingredients used, etc. You will find yourself daily frustrated at watching people butcher perfectly good food AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!! It is probably one of the worst jobs in the army. AND YOUR NOT EVEN GOING TO BE A RANGER!!
That was THE ONLY thing good about my time as a spoon! I bailed on that MOS at my first opportunity and have never looked back (except for missing Rangering)! Yeah I'm the voice of dissent here, but we have similar backgrounds and I have seen both sides. Don't get me wrong, you want to join the army (and be a Ranger) you just don't want to be a spoon. Be a medic. Then when you get out (whether it's two years or twenty years later) go back to chefing. If you're determined to be a spoon, do everything you can to get to a Ranger bn - at least then you can be a Gordon Ramsey to the legs you run into! If you want to pick my brain about this, send me a PM. I'm serious - I love the army, I HATED being a spoon!
Snafu - BAM!
