Post by chuchurokit »

I have a question about body fat. i know im opening myself up for badgering but here goes. right now i have 3% body fat. i would like to raise it by the time i get out and go for the army, but i have no clue what a good target would be to go for. Rangers, can you give me advice on a good amount i should have before i make the plunge?

Three percent? I have three percent of muscle mass! I'm no fitness guru, but you ought to be fine at 3%, if that's what you're asking.

3% body fat? Your either in Olympic shape, anorexic, or someone fucked up your body fat test. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I'm not allowed to get that low even when I cut weight.

If you show up at Ranger School with 3% BF you'll have problems soon into the course.
If Ranger School is your near-range goal, try to arrive at around 11% BF.

You have a fast metabolism.
You need a professional nutritional consultant.
They would probably recommend carbs and starches.
If you ever get a Ranger School slot, about a month out, carb and starch yourself to the max.
You'll burn it all off in the first few weeks anyway.
In Ranger School your body will burn up all it's fat and then start burning muscle tissue.
Once the muscle tissue can no longer replenish nutrients then your body literally tries to feed from your internal organs.
This is why body-builder types have problems with RS.
You need to ensure that you have enough body fat to get you through as much of the course as possible before these adverse effects set in.
I recommend you try for a winter class, this will suck to the max...but due to the cold weather you get slightly more to eat.
You'll shiver away the calories but it's still something to consider.
Good luck and remember...a strong mind will carry a weak body when it has to, a weak mind can't do shit for a strong body.

I knew a guy who's doctor advised him to drink one beer every evening. Don't know if he gained any weight, but he was always smiling. Have you looked into any of those weight gain products at GNC? Might be worth a try , however you won't be able to have any of that during schools. Damn...I wish I had that problem.

You need to speak to a nutritionist and exercise physiology person.

I seriously doubt you are at 3% body fat, despite your printout. Last I heard, the concensus was that you needed at least 6-7% just to be alive. What method was used to assess your body fat percentage?
The minimum percent bodyfat considered safe and acceptable for good health is 5% for males and 12% for females. The average adult bodyfat is closer to 15%-18% for men and 22%-25% for women.
Also, advice on how to adjust your bodyfat:

the method used was Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. i guess it is concidered n eof the most exact ways to measure. when i got out of boot camp 3 years ago i was at 5%. i wanted to test again so that i could mark my progress.

thanks Ranger Spartan for the link.
