Introduction

Post by Tahoefubar »

Hello, my name is Josh, I am 19 years old. I graduated from high school on June 10, 2004. I am currently attending Wyotech. A Automotive Tech School in Sacramento, Ca.

I enlisted April 1st, 2005. I have a 11X Contract with an option 173. I am currently awaiting a slot to open for Ranger School and/or Airborne. I ship out for OSUT on July 14, 2005. I am looking forward to learning about the Rangers and what to expect once I ship.

Welcome to the site.

First....WTF is a 173 Option?

Second.....There are no "openings" for Ranger School for you.

Third.....Where the hell did you come up with these ideas of yours? You have a long way to go.

Ranger Silverback,

That is correct. I thought that Ranger Regiment was at a later time in the training process.

Ranger Bell

To answer your first Question: Option 173 is a enlistment bonus of $5,000 for a 3 year enlistment.

Your Second: I hope I will have the opertunity to become a Ranger.

Your Third: When I was a child of 10 years I dreamed of joining the Army. When I started JROTC I wanted to join the Rangers.

You don't get it. Without an Option 40 you won't be a Ranger.

What exactly does your contract state? 11x Airborne? What?

He's 11x, they must have told him that he could "get it later".

Ranger's Bell and Kilted Heathen

My contract is only for 11X. My recruiter and councilor at MEPS told me that if I was to quit college now and ship to basic then I could have a Ranger/ Airborne option on my contract now. I was unwilling to quit to school with only 3 months to go. They told me that they will keep checking to see if a slot opens up and if so, then it could be added to my contract.

T-FUBAR:

I certainly hope "you get it". Not the bonus, not the "173 option" (whatever the hell that is), but all the hints immediately preceding mine aimed at your pointy head, trying to "square you away".

Welcome.

You've been had.
You should have walked out of his office without signing shit.
We all appreciate you stepping up and signing but it's too late to cry about what the recruiter told you he could "add on".
You will not get Airborne either, if you have already signed nothing is going to open up for you.
Good luck in your career, too bad you didn't drop in sooner.
