Well Ranger Bell I went into the recruiters office wanting to be a Ranger. The recruiter was very nice and helpful, he made it seem like that shouldn't be a problem. Since reading quite a bit on this site I realized not to assume anything until it's in print. Also, before reading through the information here I thought that basic would prepare me for RIP. I obviously know now that won't be nearly enough. Although I was very active in my early 20's I quickly found out I'm not in the shape I used to be. I would still like to be a Ranger my only concern is will I be able to bust myself into good enough shape in the next month or two. I certainly don't want to waste a spot. If I decide not to try to get the option 40 I still really want Airborne. By the way this site has been incredibley helpful so thank you all for taking the time to help.Bell wrote:Welcome to the site. You are enlisting for what?

If you decide not to try? hmmmm.....If you aren't committed to go all the way and then some, then Airborne is yer route. If it was easy everyone would be a Ranger.davem20 wrote:Well Ranger Bell I went into the recruiters office wanting to be a Ranger. If those papers don't say what you want, don't sign a thing. When you get what you want, sign it, keep copies, and then report to Minor Mayhem!
Welcome to the site, and I hope to see you around.

I just want to do what I can for my country, with the best that I can.Ranger Terry Welshan wrote:Run fast, stay awake, dont drown, dont fail, that should cover it.
I didn't quite phrase that the way I meant it. I am continuing to train myself physically everyday to prepare for RIP no matter what should happen. I'm not looking for the easy route. I am totally committed, wanting to be a Ranger has overwhelmingly consumed my thoughts as far as life goals are concerned for quite some time. As I said though I'm not in great shape. I'm not fat (I'm 5'6", 150 lbs) but years of no regular hard exercise has made for a challenge. Due to my personal situation I need to sign up in a month or just after and I want to do a one month DEP. So basically if my recruiter and I think I'm there physically I'm going for it! But if I know i'm not hitting my run times, push ups, or sit ups. Then I thought I would choose Airborne and continue to train until I am ready. So to make a long story short I really mean that I'll give all I have and then some to train before I sign a contract. At that point I'll evaluate where I stand on the APFT and if I'm making good progress I'll pursue the option 40. If I have not made the desired progress then I'll request Airborne in hopes to make it the rest of the way. Although I really want Rangers, I would be more than honored to serve in an Airborne unit. I hope my essay here cleared things up. Please feel free to post any suggestions anyone may have for me. I appreciate all your input. If you decide not to try? hmmmm.....If you aren't committed to go all the way and then some, then Airborne is yer route. If it was easy everyone would be a Ranger.

Don't sign anything unless it says Option 40. Don't join until you think you're physically ready. Note: You never will be. The program is designed to break you down, I don't care how tough you are.
You will never make it to Ranger if you go to a Airborne unit. You might get to Ranger School but you'll never wear the scroll. An Option 40 is for new recruits only. You might be able to reenlist and be a Ranger.
So, don't join until you think yer ready. Don't sign until it says Option 40 on it.
Simple.

You giving out information now? Based on what? I don't see Ranger under that name stud. Knock out fifty and go sit in the corner.AU SkullCap wrote:Welcome to the board. Don't think of reasons why you can't make it. Just realize the goal and drive on to its completion regardless of circumstance.
