We don't make mission but there are still quite a few townies that are patriots. Like the rest of USAREC, we're getting beat down, though.
Everyone thinks that if they join up, they have a high probability of dying.
I've got most of all of southern Indiana. I'm from Crawfordsville, so I came here thinking that all of our prospects would be like me and would want to join the Army in order to serve their country. I'm finding that those people are pretty few and far between. Everyone wants money.

Wow, I'm just now starting to realize how much of a comfort zone this forum is. It gives peace of mind to be able to communicate with like minded folk. I've only been stationed in the civilian sector and the foreign universe called USAREC since September, and this is like pure oxygen.
It is sincerely like a hostile area here in mid-America. My thinking is tainted since my HQ is in Bloomington; a beautiful, familiar town since I am a Hoosier and an IU grad, but my perspective is 180 degrees different due to the contrast between being pseudo-civilian student/reserve drill sergeant/SMP ROTC cadet and on-production recruiting CO.
BTW, is there a distinction on this board between those who are Ranger qualified legs and Bat boys, or do y'all treat anyone who's won their tab?:)

Joined as an 11x in 1987. Was in E 2/58 at Harmony Church for about 7 weeks and then they moved us to the Starships at Sand Hill for the remaining time.
Shipped to Ft Ord, CA (RIP) to become a lightfighter. I was HHC, 4-17 IN of the 7th ID (L) for the next few years. I was a unique in that my MOS was 11H but they put me in the BN Mortars for the majority of my tour. Sure made the SQT hard. My first 1SG was 1SG (now CSM) Scott Ripka, a man I'll admire until the day I die.
Trained in the back forty or Ft Hunter Liggett until my eyes bled.
Deployed to Panama in October 1989 to go to JOTC and to execute some show-of-force patrols.
I went to the Combat Leadership Course (CLC, another name for pre-Ranger) in 1990, but since I couldn't swim, I stayed on the top of the Ranger OML for months. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to go to Ranger School as an enlisted soldier. That was probably a big reason why I ETS'd.
Went to school at Indiana University, became a reservist Drill Sergeant, went through their ROTC program....blah, blah, blah.
BECAME A RANGER IN 1997.
I would mention my whole 8 jumps, but I'm pretty partial to being in purely leg units.
Promptly showed up to my first assignment as a Rifle Platoon PL at Ft Campbell, KY with 2/327th IN 'NO SLACK'. Spent the next 4 years there growing and learning. Was a PL for 17 months, then a weapons company XO, then the BN S3 Air. Deployed to Kosovo as the Air. There are a buttload that I'll never forget but I'm foggy on names.
Next stop was Schofield Barracks, HI to once again become a lightfighter. Turns out that I had to spend 2 YEARS on staff...as a BDE S3 Air.
Finally got my company. Aco, 2-5IN, Bobcats. I had some knuckleheads, but I'll always rememeber 1SG Bill Forro and SSG Steven McDonald among many, many others.
Saddest day of my life was when I had to give up command which was about a month or so before we were to deploy to Afghanistan back in MAR '04.
Went to AFG as a Division staff puke but had to leave after 6 months in order to take this current command in recruiting.

Roger that! 3rd BDE. My Ranger buddy at CLC was a Gimlet. Even got me a fake ID so I could go to Doc Ricketts.:)

It took you ten fucking years to learn to swim?
I fucking HATE the Navy. I'm still not that good, but when we were prepping to go to Ft Sherman, they needed lifeguards, so I went to that training and it made me stronger.
