I got Lasik right after I got out. It was absolutely the best money I ever spent. I would highly recommend it to anyone with bad vision. Go to a reputable clinic - cheaper is not always better. As far as to what jobs in the military that it may DQ you for, I don't know.

Get the surgery! It's better than the BCG glasses and you will get laid more :D
No, seriously I have 20/15 vision so sight was never a problem with me, but those that did have say it it the best thing ever. Let's see what they have to say later in life? My advice is to wait awhile for medical improvements and technology to decrease the risk and degenerative factors in Lasiks. If you gamble, by all means it is worth it. If you don't like to take chances with your eyes don't do it. After all it, Lasiks was invented by the Soviet Union.

Ask SFC Hit_It. I think he told me not to get Lasik if I'm thinking about going back in. I think it dq's you all the way. I don't see why though. If you can get in while in, why can't you get a waiver for it if you already have it before enlisting?

The Army did the PRK surgery on my eyes, I am 20/15 and skydive. I am very happy and have had no porblems. I am a little more light sensitive and have to wear sunglasses more often.

I'll second that Ranger BadMuther. I had Wavefront IntraLASIK done on December 20th. Best $2300 I ever spent that didn't add something to my gun safe. :)Ranger BadMuther wrote: Worth every penny.

I'm at 20/15 in both eyes, see better at night than I can remember, and can now clearly focus on the front sight when I'm shooting.

I just had WaveFront Lasix done at a clinic here in Bangkok a week ago. It ran about $2100, all inclusive.
I had been thinking about it for a long, long time...and I ran across the website of this clinic during my travels on the web. So I filled out their contact form, and forgot about it.
A couple days later, a chick called me. It took me awhile to understand who she was, and why she was calling, but she was with this clinic. She invited me to come in for a free evaluation, no strings attached.
Whatever. The clinic s in a neighborhood where I had some business to conduct, so I figured what the hell. I dropped by.
Well. This joint runs a really nice operation. They are very organized, very clean, very modern, and everything about them inspires confidence. It is possible to get lesser forms of Lasix from them for less money, but I went top-shelf. I do not regret it.
Before, I was something 20/400 in each eye, with astigmatism, and worsening age-related inability to focus, I think that they call the condition porphyria, something like that.
Anyway, this clinic has a series of presentations that you have to sit through....and they convinced me. I consider $2100 for both eyes to be very cheap. It can cost quite a bit more in the states.
I went for it. A week after I sat through the presentations, I went under the laser.
This is how crazy that I am: immediately after the surgery, I walked out of the clinic, yanked off the eye shields, and went out to dinner with some pals of mine. I could see. A little blurry, but I could see. After dinner, I went home, and went to bed.
I woke up a few hours later. Again, I could see. The blurriness was nearly gone. I could not believe it.
Again, I went to bed. I woke up, and my eyesight was nearly perfect.
When I went in for my follow up exam the day after surgery, it turned out that I had 20/20 vision in both eyes. It has been...a week now since the surgery, and I just returned from my second follow up exam.
My eyes are a little dry, and it feels better to use these Natural Tears eye drops periodically, but my eyes are working very well. I still have porphyria, but now, instead of having to hold menus all the way up to my face, I just use a pair of reading glasses, and everything is groovy. I have to use reading glasses to work on a computer, as I am right now, but my vision is crisp and sharp. When I get up and do something else, I take the reading glasses off, and I am good to go.
I have to say...simply being liberated from never messing around with glasses or contacts ever again has me ecstatic. I am really pleased. I can live with the reading glasses thing. It happens when you get old. Everyone that I know that is my age or older, has to use them. I got a pair of folding glasses that come in a case that I can tuck in a pocket. When I want to read a menu, or a newspaper, or a book, or use a computer, I just put them on, and I am golden.
