I had the absolute pleasure of meeting CSM Cavaiani on two different occasions. Such a nice humble man. The country has truly lost one of it's best with his passing.

Rest in peace CSM.

My prayers out to you and your family.

Jon was a Brother and Friend. He will be missed in the Community of Warriors. I can imagine the reception he received in Valhalla; Col Howard and Walt Shumate greeting him as the doors opened, other Legends awaiting his arrival and plenty of Jack with two ice cubs everywhere.

There is not a date at Arlington National Cemetery for him. When there is, I'll post it.

I think this is just amazing.

[excerpt of above link]
Four decades after the battle on Hickory Hill, Sgt. Maj. Cavaiani returned to Vietnam to help Defense Department officials locate the remains of Jones, the sergeant who had remained behind with him and whose body had not been recovered.

Sgt. Maj. Cavaiani remembered and precisely identified the bunker where he and Jones had taken refuge, recalled Page, who also returned to Vietnam to assist in the effort. Jones’s remains were found, and, in 2012, he was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

“I think you can never repay that debt,” Jones’s brother, James D. Jones, said in an interview. “We say we leave no one behind. In this case, they did not.”
