Saw a pretty good version of Red Dawn tonight, though from what I understand it is actually a ten volume series of books, adapted to the screen. I know there is a remake of Red Dawn coming out, but screw that movie... seriously? North Koreans? Anyway the movie I saw tonight was called "Tomorrow when the war began" and is from Australia. The bad guys are Chinese, though they never mention what country they are from. Those of you with Netflix can find it on instant watch.

Here is the trailer

I started this thread in October 2004. With an 18 month at home, I won't post a review until October 2015 or later.

Just watched a instant Netflix movie "My Way". For those that didn't know it, a Korean was captured manning the bunkers at Normandy when the US invaded. This movie tells how he may have got there.

In the movie he is forced into the Japanese army, fight the Soviets in Manchuria. Pretty bloody fights, showing how banzai charges work against a Soviet tank assault.

It doesn't. He gets captured by the Soviets, survives a POW camp in Siberia, and then get forced into the Russian army and fights at Kharkov. This shows how Soviet human waves take on massed German machineguns (very similiar to the opening scenes in "Enemy at the Gates").

It doesn't. He gets captured by the Germans and joins them. He ends up in Normandy, on Omaha beach.

I liked it. This was the the most expensive war movie ever made in Korea and it shows.

Above made me think of a documentary I saw last year called "Hold at all Costs-The Battle for Outpost Harry"

Great, great documentary about the 200 Allied soldiers who held that hill for 7-8 days against human waves in the thousands of Koreans and Chicoms, as well as the almost 100,000 artillery shells that fell during this fight to hold one hill.

Amazing story of courage and brotherhood told by those that survived (very few), friendly as well as enemy interviews.

Went and saw The Hobbit yesterday with my Mom and Daughter. I have to admit, it ended as I thought it would. That being said, I strongly recommend the movie for any fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy or Tolkien in general.

If you have read the Tolkien books, be prepared for a small bit of change in the story. Both in the form of further explaining the LOTR trilogy and dragging out an already long story, but all in all it was a good movie that I will likely buy when it comes out on video.

A-ha ! I beat my own deadline.

Took my son Connor to see "The World's End" on Friday.

The reviews (from reviewers that I generally think are really good) thought it was the funniest movie of the year. I would say it was really good, I would recommend it to anyone that liked "Hot Fuzz," "Paul" or "Shaun of the Dead" - all other Simon Pegg movies. It wasn't the greatest movie I ever saw, like Pegg's other ones it kind of meanders around to a hastily made up ending, still I liked it. For those that aren't fans, it will be a good rental in about a year.

Wow, I started this topic 9 years ago.

Two reviews for you all:
1. The Wolverine: Good movie, with the exception of the final fight scene, which was cheesy. It had a completely different vibe than the previous X-Men movies, but in a good way.

2. Kick-Ass 2: Mother fuckin' hilarious! (profanity, and a pun, intended) See this one with your service buddies, but LEAVE THE WIFE, CHILDREN (INCLUDING TEENAGERS), CHURCH FRIENDS, ETC. AT HOME, the R-rating is incredibly well deserved.

World War Z........nothing in common with the book. Just another senseless action movie with a weak plot. The special effects were not even anything new. I am glad I did not see it in the theater.
