Here's his response:

I joined the Army in August of 1986.  I went to Fort Benning for Basic, AIT, and jump school.      I ended up at: E Co. 109th MI BN.  Fort Lewis.  I was in a LRSU unit that was attached to a military intelligence company.  I went to Ranger school 7/87 and HALO school 1/88. Keith

Before my time at Lewis.

Pretty fast turn to Ranger school; I joined in AUG 86, did basic, AIT and jump school, and got to battalion in February 87. I started class 13-87 at the end of August, 1987 as a very cherry PFC. If he went to class 7-87, he went in world record time; that class graduated 14 May 87. https://www.benning.army.mil/infantry/rtb/gallery.html

Interestingly enough, when I googled Ranger class 7-87, I found this guy http://johnpaulus.blogspot.com/. Any of you 3rd BN guys know John Paulus? You can check every award he ever got on his blog.

I had the misfortune of having Paulus as my first squad leader. Search this site for Skyjacker for more info. Or google him in conjunction with Clay Aiken.

There are a number of amusing tales from C Co. involving Paulus, to include legends such as a sleeping bag suspended out a 3rd story barracks window or being chased down the hall and beaten with a .30 cal cleaning rod by a future RSM.
