CPT. JONATHAN CARVER JR. - RANGER (1755-63)
"The Soldiers Of The Wilderness,
A Rough And Hardy Band.
In Woodland Garb, With Woodland Arms,
We Guard This Forest Land.
Tis Ours To Breath The Battle Smoke,
To Range The Trackless Wood,
To Struggle With The Howling Storm
And Swim The Flashing Flood.
Deep In The Gloomy Forest,
Unseen By Human Eye,
We Track The Foe, We Strike The Blow,
And, Nameless All, We Die.
I Love The Savage War Whoop,
And Whistling Of The Ball;
The Woods, The Rocks, The Boiling Streams,
I Love Them One And All.
And Yet Their Memory Is Entwined,
With Thoughts Of Sore Distress,
Of Famine, Grief, And Danger,
And Bitter Weariness.
For The Ranger's Gun Has Echoed,
From A Thousand Pathless Mountains;
And The Ranger's Blood Has Stained With Red,
A Thousand Limpid Fountains."

Funny how this very message still rings true today, and always will, despite its age.

My sentiments exactly. Fits just as well today as it did when Cpt. Carver wrote it.
I've had it in a frame in my apt for yrs, but it's just a cheap B/W photocopy. Ultimately I'd like to find someone that does calligraphy type art and have them really class it up on nice paper or even burnt onto a wooden roughshod type coffee/card table.

I have that in a barnwood style frame on parchment etc. The shops outside of Bragg sold a series of prints like that in the '80s. Mine has some colonial rangers drawn on it - and coincidentaly, it was drawn & produced by one of our own here.
Maybe he can be persuaded to run them again, what with computers, scanning, correl and all... :)

No kidding? Once again, what a small world we reside in.
Yes mine has a Colonial Ranger and a present day Ranger (80's at the time) drawn on each side. My copy is just from a copy machine, black ink lines on the side and all. :D
Still very cool tho.

Yep, that's the same one. I'll try to find a scanner that'll fit it and send it to you.
but given where I am this week, you'll need to remind a few times next week. and the week after.

There are a few companies that will etch it onto marble. I got the Ranger Creed on a nice piece of black marble in my office.
That really is a cool poem.

Maybe it is written on the paper, you know, right beside the moccassin of the Revolutionary era rifleman / Ranger
I would post a picture, but I'm fucking tired of posting pictures and then only seeing a big red x that says I don't have permission to view it.

well, if we could work out a good quality scan, that we could then take to a local print shop for example, I'd love to get a copy.

Re: CPT. JONATHAN CARVER JR. - RANGER (1755-63)
For about a 15 year time period, I was the King of wall locker art. I quit drawing and started writing, so all that went by the wayside. I'm always tickled when I see my prints turned into various wall murals and such in the barracks.cams wrote:rgrokelley wrote:Hmmm... I wonder who the artist was?cams wrote:No kidding? Good stuff.
Was the following also one of yours? It was painted full size in the barracks at 2nd Batt, IIRC was in A Co.
Had a full size painting of an 80's era Ranger in OG107's and PC,
and read;
"Rangers, men who have fought and died, that lesser men be free to cry peace, when there was none."

I don't recognize the quote, so most likely not. You know, if we had a gallery that was worth a shit, I'd create an album with all my prints in it. I scanned them years ago.cams wrote:Good stuff.
