Actor Val Kilmer thinks Vietnam Veterans are punks,criminals & more,

One of New Mexico's most famous residents is once again telling people in the press that he wants to run for governor.

According to The Hill actor Val Kilmer is still thinking about running for New Mexico's top job in 2010 when the current governor, Bill Richardson, is term-limited out of office.

And Kilmer hinted that he has the backing of Gov. Bill Richardson.

The Hill reports that Kilmer said the mysterious "they" have asked him to run.

He told The Hill at Monday's Huffington Post party at the Newseum that he has been approached to run for the highest office of the state where he owns a ranch and has family roots.

"Actually, they've asked me to run for governor," he said, not specifying who "they" are. "People seem to want me to.
"
But the most eyebrow-raising part of the article comes further down, where it looks as if Kilmer is claiming to have the backing of Richardson.

Richardson publicly declared his support for a potential Kilmer candidacy last year, and on Monday the actor returned the praise to the current governor, who now plans to stay put after an ongoing ethics investigation forced him to decline President Obama’s invitation to become Commerce secretary.

Last year, a Richardson spokesman told the Santa Fe New Mexican that Richardson did not endorse a run for governor. Instead, Richardson seems supportive of the idea of Kilmer's running, saying of Kilmer, "If he jumps in a race he's got name ID, so it can't be discounted.
"
I still think that if people want to learn a little more about Kilmer-- besides that he was Doc Holliday in "Tombstone," Iceman in "Top Gun" or Batman in "Batman Forever" -- the Chuck Klosterman profile for Esquire is a good place to start.

Orvon "Gene" Autry During World War II, Autry enlisted for service on the air during a broadcast of his show, going on to serve his country as a Flight Officer with the Air Transport Command. From 1943 until 1945, he flew C-47 cargo planes in the China-Burma-India theater, earning the American Campaign Medal; National Defense Medal; China Service Medal; Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal (w/battle star and Overseas Service Bar. When the war ended, Autry was assigned to Special Services, where he toured with a USO Troupe in the South Pacific before resuming his movie career in 1946.

Clark Gable (Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) Although he was beyond the draft age at the time the U.S. entered WW II, Clark Gable enlisted as a private in the AAF on Aug. 12, 1942 at Los Angeles. He attended the Officers' Candidate School at Miami Beach, Fla. and graduated as a second lieutenant on Oct. 28, 1942. He then attended aerial gunnery school and in Feb. 1943 he was assigned to the 351st Bomb Group at Polebrook where flew operational missions over Europe in B-17s. Capt. Gable returned to the U.S. in Oct. 1943 and was relieved from active duty as a major on Jun. 12, 1944 at his own request, since he was over-age for combat.

Tyrone Power (an established movie star when Pearl Harbor was bombed) joined the U.S. Marines, was a pilot flying supplies into, and wounded Marines out of, Iwo Jima and Okinawa

Donald Pleasance (The Great Escape) really was an R. A. F. pilot who was shot down, held prisoner and tortured by the Germans.

James Doohan ("Scotty" on Star Trek) landed in Normandy with the U. S. Army on D-Day.

George Kennedy: Kennedy put aside show business during World War II and spent sixteen years in the United States Army, seeing combat and working in the Armed Forces radio. He was involved with the opening of the first Army Information Office,[4] which provided technical assistance to films and TV shows.

Christopher Lee: He volunteered to fight for the Finnish forces during the Winter War against the Soviet Union in 1939; however, as Lee admits in his autobiography, he and his fellow British volunteers were in Finland only a fortnight and kept well away from the Russian forces the whole time. He went on to serve in the Royal Air Force and intelligence services during World War II including serving as an Intelligence officer with the Long Range Desert Group. He trained in South Africa as a pilot but eyesight problems forced him to drop out. He eventually ended up in North Africa as Cipher Officer for No. 260 Squadron RAF and was with it through Sicily and Italy. Additionally, he has mentioned serving in Special Operations Executive, though all details of actions undertaken by members of the SOE are still classified. Lee retired from the RAF after the end of the War with the rank of Flight Lieutenant.

Dave, "the Duke" never was on active duty. But Jim Garner (Maverick, the Rockford Files) joined the National Guard and went to Korea for 14 months in the 24th Infantry Division in the Korean War. He was wounded twice, first in the face and hand from shrapnel fire from a mortar round, and second in the buttocks from friendly fire from U.S. fighter jets as he dove headfirst into a foxhole on April 23, 1951. Garner was awarded the Purple Heart in Korea for the first injury. For the second wound, he received a second Purple Heart (eligibility requirement: "As the result of friendly fire while actively engaging the enemy"), although Garner received the medal in 1983, 32 years after his injury. Garner was a self-described "scrounger" for his company in Korea (he would later use this experience for his character in the The Great Escape).

While working with Hollywood, both Rgrpuck and I came to the conclusion that the stupid people on earth are those in Hollywood. There are rare, few exceptions, but most are dumb. Really, really dumb. Amazingly dumb.

My theory is that they are all good looking. Very few are downright beautiful, most of us have flaws, but there are a few, very few "beautiful people". At a certain age, sometime in High School, they realize they are really good looking and then realize that with good looks, you don't need to do much anymore. No more studying, no more hard work. This concept is actually been studied, and it is true. Good looking people get promoted quicker and are able to influence others. However, they no longer need education. They can do without it. All around them people are telling them how great they are, so they come to believe that they are smart, well liked and their opinion is highly sought after.

However they are dumber than a bag of hammers. They look marvelous, but they are really, really stupid.

Val Kilmer could be their poster child.
