What do you do for entertainment?

Post by BruteForce »

Some of you that are still active duty probably have a different selection available, but for those of us that are no longer active service...

What do you do for fun? What keeps you entertained when you're not making money for the man?

--------------

For me, I enjoy duck/goose hunting, working on my 1987 Camaro, camping (if I can call it that now.. especially since I've purchased a 31' RV), hiking, ATV'ing and rock/cliff climbing.

A few pics..

Image
Hiking up Moab rim (Moab, Utah). Most folks drive their jeeps or hummers up here, but the wife and I hiked up!

Image
Taking the Durango where it wasn't meant to go.. We did some undercarriage damage on this drive..

Image
ATV'ing with the newly purchased Kawasaki BruteForce 750i ATV in the Richfield, Utah area..

Image
Hauling my EOD Air Force buddy over some fallen trees..

Image
After a long day of riding in LoganDale, NV.. 1 Hour north of Las Vegas..

Image
I've owned this car since 1988.. 305TPI, puts out over 400+HP at 11sec 1/4mile!

Image
Last, but not least.. My extended family which includes the sister-in-law, and her daughter. My wife and I (with our two boys) are on the left, with the sister-in-law and her daughter (she's divorced) to the right.

My apologies if the photos are huge, but I was too lazy to edit them down.

Oh, and my wife and her sister are not latino/Mexican :D , their mother is Philipino!

Share your photos, etc..

Oh, and of late, geocaching...

We've placed some 5x5 (very difficult) to find caches that require rappelling gear, 4x4 vehicles and a huge amount of endurance. In the picture below, we scaled a 200' sheer slate (the rock crumbles under your hands/feet) cliff to place a geocache. For the past 4+ months, it's only been found once (and we were there and had to pull the folks up with my rappelling rope/gear.

Image
Even a 9 year old girl can climb these cliffs! (with a little help, that is)

Image
My 9 year old son and I, after a hard day of hiking, riding and climbing. We thought it was humorous that he almost had a 'stach like the old man!

Finally, a thank you for all the Active Duty soldiers (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard) that continue to secure our country in this time of war/conflict.

Stateside, most CIV's have no clue what you brave men/women do, but my family and I do.. and for that, we thank you!

I mess around with my truck, firearms, gym, booze, cigars, my music (itunes), internet, formal education (love/hate relationship), military history, law enforcement history, I collect swords and other edge weapons (Japanese mostly and WWII knives), brothel chits from the old west, antique gambling stuff, films that I remember as a kid, my other truck- a 59' Chevy stepside, researching D-Day from the 82nd's perspective, work on the yard, learning Arabic (slowly) for the next contract,

And

Cook all of the meals that I wish I had during the times that I was eating a "five fingers of death" MRE at "0 dark 30" while ice-cold rainwater was dripping down my asscrack in the field. Same with being in Iraq, eating "group rations" from a chow trailer that smells like a county fair shitter on Saturday night!

I also have a decent WWII Ranger insignia collection I but am missing
1st, 4th, 6th and 7th Bn scrolls. Any leads would be helpful.

My wife and I are making the most of the time that we have left in Europe to do as much travel as we can before we return to the States in October.

...and last night I went to see Phantom of the Opera at the Kennedy Center. Contrary to the image Andy attempts to portray, we are all pretty well rounded.

When I was OCONUS (Germany), the wife and I did the same. It's surprising how many folks never leave post when overseas..
