Good Books to read.

Post by Gator85 »

Hello Rangers quick question. I am looking for a good read related to the military. I have browsed through B & N and have read the following books already but I would love to hear some of your personal favorites.

Starship Troopers by Heinlein(a reserve LTC was my 6th grade science teacher and made us all read this, was awesome though it took another couple years for me to fully understand it)

Ender's Game by Card

Gates of Fire by Pressfield

All of Ambrose's work

Clifford the Big Red Dog goes to Camp by Bridwell

We were Soldiers Once...And Young by Moore

Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War by Bowden

Thank you for your time Rangers.

If you thinking about joining the Army, you might want to give FM 21-20 a read. It's kind of a self help book.

Start with Volume I as there are some continuing story lines.

"The Forever War", by Joe Haldeman

"World at War" by Harry Turtledove. This one's a killer and worth pouring through 4 Volumes.

"War World", also edited by Jerry Pournelle. There are several Volumes, all with interconnected and continuing storylines.

I'm guessing they are about war

One of the few series I have been following is
" A song of Fire and Ice" buy G R R Martin
book one is about as long as the entire LoTR trilogy, very detailed

others

almost anything by David Gemmel or Steven Brust’s vlad series

any original unedited story by R.E Howard

HT, just read a story the other day that HBO has picked this up to run as a new series, prolly next year. GRRM said he would only let someone like HBO do it so it isn't censored and toned done, and also because there's too much content to fit into one feature film. After Robert Jordan, this is probably my favorite fiction series.
