You do realize that the Spartan men had "friendly" relationships with the younger crowd of Spartans, right?borebrush wrote:Guess what Iran, you are a bunch of fucking weirdos and boy-touchers...
Now, Iran IS a bunch of fucking weirdos, but calling them pedos in comparison with Sparta is just silly.

Some details on the 300!
I went with my father last night and saw the movie again. He pointed out the same things, that is, that the Thespians 700 of them died along side the 300 but also that about 1000 Elotes (slaves) also fought and died.
The Persians:
The clothing used by the Persians was totally wrong. Hollywood must have decided that course of action. In fact I post some pictures of what the Persians looked like. Nevertheless, the Persians where in fact highly educated people. They were not a military people like the Spartans and build an army from the people they conquered.
The Spartans:
They were in fact the first Democratic city state in Greece dating back to 800 B.C. They voted for 500 Senators, several overseers and two Kings. One King for the political side and one for the military, in fact Sparta could not go to war without a vote. What Leonidas did although heroic and correct in that he gave the time (3 days) for the Greeks to mass an army for a final engagement.
The Elotes:
The slaves of those days were not slaves as we know them they had rights, they went to school, they lived and worked along side the Spartans and more they basically had all the human rights that any one had except they couldn’t vote as they were from other city states or countries. Kind of like a labor force that could live like normal people.
The Elotes were used to carry the weapons of the Spartans during the few days march so that they could fight while still fresh. In the end they decided to stay and fight with their “bossâ€

Obviously, the Thespians had fancier uniforms. Were they better actors?Chiron wrote:Thespian Warrior

That was something that bugged me and my wife. We could have sworn that Spartans used shields like the Thespians, not completely rounded ones. She was going through her textbooks to find Spartan shields in Ancient Greek art and ended up finding examples of both rounded shields and ones with notches to use spears through. You have any more insight on it, bro?Chiron wrote:Thespian Warrior

Thespians wore black as they didn't care about dieing. Spartans went to war with the following... Helmet, red cape, shield, sword and spear. That's it. For the movie they added a lether jock strap. This because they would rather fight without any hinderance nothing that got in the way.
The shield was round with a Greek L standing for Lakedemonian. Sparta was the city state in the area called Lakedemonia. Today Sparta belongs to the province called Lakedemonia.

This is a rated G version of a Spartan. In fact while in battle they wore nothing but a red cape, helmet, shield, sword and spear.
The Greek L is an inverted V.
