Let me see here... Ranger, Special Forces, service as an enlisted man, warrant officer or commissioned officer. Decisions are tough and you have a big one to make, so I will simplify it for you. Do this: enlist with an Option 40 contract, serve in The Regiment and get to Ranger School. Then you have the option of OCS ahead of you and bear in mind that today you have to be a captain to go SF as an officer. An SF warrant officer is a seasoned professional and you will have to at least attain the rank of staff sergeant before you will be considered. See? Decisions aren't so tough afterall.

Since all you know for sure right now is that NG is the route you must take, then your options are narrowed. I'm a bit confused on your OCS business. In your most recent post, you write that you have an OCS commission and then later in the same post write that you have not yet submitted a packet. An earlier post you wrote about having an OCS contract. These terms are not interchangable.

If you are considering renegotiating your current contract, why not go all the way and insist on an active duty 11X Option 40? But if NG is only way you want to go, then your opportunities are limited by the type of unit you will be joining. You should be able to find that out. If you can get into an NG SF unit, go for it. If not, my recommendation would be to stay with your present OCS contract, if that is what you have. As far as being older, if you are in physical shape your age and experience should give you an advantage over younger guys, as long as you are not a douche bag and are able to take orders, and some harrassment, of drill sergeants and other NCOs training you who will be youner. We have a number of Rangers on this site who went through RIP when they were older than you are.
